I have been reading Stumpknocker's journal with great interest. My question is, how is he able to keep his journal so current, and with the pictures? I realize he must have a cell ph. but how can he keep it charged and send that much info to his journal site?

I believe he is carrying a blackberry/trio type of device. He can type out what he wants and then save it till he gets a data signal, and then he can send it out to his transcriber who puts it on the website same day.

It makes Blackberries look very old-fashioned. It has a camera, too. He carries an extra battery, but I believe the battery has run down at least once already.

I think he is carrying something like mine. It has a camera and internet. I have so far resisted the urge to post from the hammock.

I emailed him not too long ago and asked about what he's carrying for communications. He told me it's the LG Envy. It's one of the "candy bar" style phones that opens up to a larger screen and full QWERTY keyboard. He has internet access via the phone as well.

Martini and Rossi on Trail Journals updated regularly last year using a blackberry as did I. Surprising how often you have service. Then again still saw a lot of folks doing it the old fashion way - pen and paper.
