If you were listening close in '06 you may have heard the echoes of that song - as D Treader and I sang it all through Maine - much to the consternation of the rest of the Mobsters.
I think you were just behind us.

Hum a few bars of "Feelings" and then talk to me about victims :D.
I carry ultralite earworm drops. Never have a problem with them :)

Interesting. This is an excerpt from a book I'm reading called 'This Is Your Brain On Music'.
"Peter placed electrodes in the inferior colliculus of the barn owl, part of its auditory system. Then he played the owls a version of Strauss's "The Blue Danube Waltz" made up of tones from which the fundamental frequency [only the note's harmonic frequencies, not the key not itself] had been removed. Peter hypothesized that if the missing fundamental is restored at early levels of auditory processing, neurons in the owl's inferior colliculus should fire at the rate of the missing fundamental. This was exactly what he found.
Peter sent the output of these electrodes to a small amplifier, and played back the sound of the owl's neurons through a loudspeaker. What he heard was astonishing; the melody of The blue Danube."

i see trees of green........ red roses too
I see 'em bloom..... for me and for you
And i think to myself.... what a wonderful world.
I see skies of blue..... clouds of white
Bright blessed days....dark sacred nights
And i think to myself .....what a wonderful world.
The colors of a rainbow.....so pretty ..in the sky
Are also on the faces.....of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands.....sayin'.. how do you do
They're really sayin'......i love you.
I hear babies cry...... i watch them grow
They'll learn much more.....than i'll never know
And i think to myself .....what a wonderful world

After I made it through the smokies in 06, I thought
"I made it through the wilderness"
my brain then continued with "Somehow I made it through..." Madonna, for a week straight. I carry a mp3 player now. If I had to hike without raingear or without a mp3 player I'd probably skip the raingear....

Knowing me, knowing you
Ah Haaaaaa
There is nothing we can do
Knowing me knowing you
It's the best I can do
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown
The dream is gone
And I have become ...
Comfortably numb.

http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/music025.gif"The Love Boat" theme
My earworms were usually either provoked by something I saw (seeing a restaurant called "Angelina's" would start the song "Angelina" in my head for a few hours; a lot of mist would start me hearing the nursery rhyme "One misty, moisty morning when cloudy was the weather..."), or sometimes by the cadence of walking. When I got into PA and was having trouble keeping up a nice walking cadence on the rocks, the earworms disappeared for a while. As I got better at hopping from rock to rock, and picked up speed again, the earworms returned.
A few people have told me they don't hear earworms. What's up with that?
i hear songs by AIR SUPPLY! it's so dreamy!!!:D

My problem is that I keep getting the Joey Ramone version of this stuck in my head. Punk standards -- scary.
Madonna is good compared to some of the nonsense I get stuck with.

There is a new radio station here in Greenville, SC that, in their own description, plays EVERYTHING from the 60's through the 90's. 106.3 Charlie FM. I have gotten so many new earworms from them I can hardly take it. It's all fun though. I have a favorite Grateful Dead tune that chases any earworm away.
