Bearpaw 01-30-2008, 19:43 Can one get bagels, lox and a "schmeer" south of the Mason-Dixon line? ;) You can get these things that vaguely resemble bagels, at least the bag says they're bagels, as well as cream cheese in most southern trail towns. But good luck finding that funky fish.....:( Critterman 01-30-2008, 19:44 Can one get bagels, lox and a "schmeer" south of the Mason-Dixon line? ;) Yankee land- where bagel stores out number donut shops. Lilred, if this is like the stuff we used to get around Christmas, it is more like a cake than a bread. Dark brown, sweet, with nuts and stuff. Really a steamed bread. You can make it yourself, don't need the can. It is steamed in a cloth wrapper, or in a tin cake form. You can make it on the trail, actually. Similar to a Logan bread recipe or a suet pudding, only not so dense. |
