Hey guys, I'm looking for some STRONG/DURABLE UL stuff sacks. Some that I was looking at were Gossamer and Granit Gear. Are there any other companies that I should look into? Basically I'm looking for something to use for my clothes and food. Considering a compression sack for my clothes but haven't decided on it because of weight. I plan on using these for my thru hike. What do you guys think.

You might want to try these. It's what i sell and use. We make them and I have used the clothes bag (small) for 2 thrus and the food bag (larger)for one (get's used a lot more)

Sea-to-Summit Ultra-sil Dry Packs are bombproof. I used a 20-L sack as my food bag, so it probably got more abuse than anything else in my pack, and it held up great. I used slightly heavier OutdoorResearch Hydrolite bags as stuff sacks for my pack and clothing, and I was happy with those also, but if you want to shave ounces, go with something sil-nylon like the Sea-to-Summit bags.

I second the Sea to Summit bags. I don't buy into their waterproof ultra-sil dry line though, with the buckle and all. I've seen guys bearbag with them, and water still got inside. Just buy the lighter version with a drawcord, I never had a problem, and you can hang these upside down.

Although I don't have any experience with them, I'd buy my next stuff sacks from Zpacks.com. Really cheep, great company, cheap shipping. Don't forget mountain laurel designs either.

Silnylon is NOT waterproof under pressure. I have experience with those Sea-to-Summit bags and they don't work. Water can be forced through silnylon if there is any pressure, such as the pressure of the contents against your backpack against your back. Silnylon works fine when there is no pressure, such as tarps, ponchos and pack covers.

The sea-to-summit lightweight sacks are very durable and truly waterproof. If you need true waterproofing, then this is what I would recommend. If you just want to keep a fleece jacket from being soaked, then silnylon is okay. The parts of the fleece pressed against the silnylon will get damp, but since fleece doesn't absorb or wick water, the rest of it will stay dry.

I'm not a big fan of el-cheapo stuff from WalMart, but I bought 3 ultralite waterproof stuff sacks with a roll-over delrin buckle closure. They look/feel like sil-nylon. There are three different sizes packed together in a plastic sleeve for $9.00----believe it or not they are NICE.

Equinox makes a line of UL stuff sacks that are well made and reasonably priced, sold at a variety of places. I've carried some for years. AGG (http://www.antigravitygear.com/products.php?cat=29)also sells their own brand pretty cheap...
