I'm also thinking about the parts of the Trail that are incredibly hard for even a human. I don't think a llama can do all that. Hire a human. Seriously. There was a husband and wife team that hiked on the AT last year with pack animals. It was very difficult. If you would like to communicate with them, I will give you their email address if you email me privately: atrailhiker@hotmail.com In the meantime, keep planning your hike :) Jim Adams 02-07-2008, 15:44 But do they eat much? If they do that might reduce the amount of beer they can carry do not want to hurt the llama :-? depends on where the hiking is. llamas will graze on just about anything but the problem is enough nutrition...most also carry purina llama chow....really! geek StarLyte 02-07-2008, 20:58 You got me GOOD. She sang that on and off the whole time, including when our brother saw a bear... she belted it out at the top of her lungs to scare it off. ;) It *does* become an earworm after a while. Maybe that's why the bear ran! One of them says, "hey, let's go in for a drink!" and the other says, "they don't allow dogs in here". So the first guy says, watch this! and puts on a pair of sunglasses. He walks up to the bar, and the waiter says, "I'm sorry, sir, but we don't allow dogs in here", and the first guy says, "but this is my seeing eye dog!" The waiter lets him in. The second guy puts on a pair of sunglasses and walks up to the bar, and the waiter says, "I'm sorry sir, but we don't allow dogs in here." The second guy says, "but this is my seeing eye dog!" The waiter replies, "A chihuahua is a seeing eye dog?" The second guy looks very surprised, and says, "What? They gave me a chihuahua?" Jonathan P.S., so if you see a ranger on the trail, say, "What, they gave me a llama?" Bootstrap 02-15-2008, 14:56 The Lama The one-l lama, He's a priest. The two-l llama, He's a beast. CHECK OUT THIS LINK... http://www.llamaweb.com/Uses/Hiking.html My husband and I often chuckle when we see comments about people wishing to sell a "trained pack llama". As far as we are concerned, virtually all llamas will pack. It takes about 5 minutes to train most llamas to carry a pack. On the other hand, an experienced pack llama is really worth a great deal of money. This is the llama that knows that when he is carrying a pack, he is considerably wider, and he shouldn't plan on going between those two trees that are pretty close together. Clue: Some training packs for llamas have the bottoms and sides made of ballistic nylon..... you know, the stuff that stops bullets! Maybe they could make one that's solar powered. At least it won't spit at you.) |
