Howdy folks,
New to WB, but not new to the hiking scene. So hello to all, great site and good info here.
I'm from Kalispell, MT currently residing in New England. I love alcohol stoves due to cost and....cost.. enough that I try to find 'unique' canned drinks to sacrifice to the fire gods. Neighbor drinks the big energy drinks like they're going out of style. I think I found my favorite so far, sorry for the size and quality of pic, cell phone style. If I could only find ol' Chuck on an energy drink...
"Keep in a cool place" and dial 1-866-LTNG-BLT for more info! (The stove actually says this near the picture)
You found Steven, keep looking for Chuck, we're sure you'll find him. I'll keep my eyes open for you also. Good hunting:D I think I'll name my next stove "cheepo"

Site gremlins were in a frenzy:) New host being set-up and upgrade of bb soft ware taking place. Site soon to have face lift, and a little nip and tuck. By the time you see this message you will have returned from your campout. The threatning storm kept me away, maybe in the near future.:) wish I coulda been there.

Wobbly: I feel bad about interrupting your thread to communicate with Zelph so I'd like to add something to your discussion. I use the (hopefully) attached Energy drink can to cook in, not as an alcohol stove. I wrapped a few turns of fiberglass casting material around the top, which allows me to grab it off of the stove even with bare fingers. I did test this out yesterday and today in the southern Kettle Moraine unit in Wisconsin, which is why I was trying to contact Zelph. Thanks.Zelph: it was FANTASTIC! The view from the shelter was amazing. You were wise though not to stop by. It started to rain ice at about 4am and when we left, the parking lot was like a flooded hockey rink. Let you know more in advance when we go again...Mike

Once most cans are opened, and become exposed to Oxygen, in many cases the interior can begin to corrode, especially if used for cooking. Heavy metals, tin, iron, even aluminum, are unwise to avoidably ingest in quantity. I recommend instead going ahead and purchasing a (preferably neither Aluminum nor steel unless stainless) proper cooking container. Your longterm health is NOT worth saving several ounces of packweight during hikes.

Smith: I'll have to research and ponder that. I'm not sure I would be taking anything bad "in quantity" and I wonder how that compares to say, frying in a Teflon-coated or all-aluminum pan. Or even drinking water from a plastic bottle. I'd appreciate anyone else's input on this, too.
