Any of you know of a good bivy sac pattern?

Owfinc.com has a pattern for a bivy. I have no idea how good it is, though. I sometimes modify gear but haven't sewn anything from scratch since the 1980s.

I made one of theirs. It went together well and the instructions are fine for building - they don't give you much of an overview of the thing, though so if you don't care for the design you're stuck.

Hint - ask pointed questions about the design. Make sure you like it. Personally, I didn't, and no longer have it. But if you do like it, well, the plans work real well. Just follow them and in a few evenings you'll have a bivy.

And please don't ask me what I didn't like about it... I don't remember. I think it was that the net was under the rain flap or something silly like that.

Could you link to the article please? The Communty site is laid out awkwardly and it is hard to find anything specific. Thanks.

I bought one of these to use as a pattern.

Here's another fairly cheap one.

Although, the slumbejack is quite heavy.

Just suggestions.:sun

Got to love sportsmans guide stuff. Great descriptions for hiking gear. I should add I love looking around that site. Kind of the Odd Lots of the internet.

I bought a bivy pattern from Quest Outfitters (http://www.questoutfitters.com/patterns-tent,sleeping%20bag.htm). It seems like a bathtub floor with a top on it.

Yes, I agree. That fellow has a skewed idea as to what constitutes "light".
However, that being said. If you watch, sometimes he does have some incredible bargains.:sun
