I'm starting my northbound hike next Tuesday. I'll be taking the train from Philly to Gainesville ($130). I tried to reserve a ride with Unitaxi to Amicola Falls ($65) but was told just to call when I got there. Anyone else plan on arriving by train and has anyone used Unitaxi? Thanks!

For $3 less, the nice people at Hiker Hostel will pick you up in Gainesville, put you up overnight, feed you breakfast, and take you to the trail.

Thanks for the info. My train arrives at 7AM and I'm itching to hit the trail. Do you know what Hiker Hostel charges for just the shuttle? The computer I'm using can't open the excel price list.

Gainesville to Amicalola, $57, Gainesville to Springer, $68.

You can always use use Google Documents, might also be useful on your hike to store information and retrieve it when in town. http://docs.google.com (http://docs.google.com/?hl=en&tab=wo#not-in-folders)

Hiker Hostel is a great place to start your hike. You will meet other hikers there. They serve a hearty breakfast, too. The hostel is beautifully maintained.
