Kelty Teton 2.

I have seen some posts about economical, lightweight options for tents, and rather than respond in every post about (in my view) a dealbreaker, I will do so here.

Had it out on the trail in PA this past September in dry conditions: great!

Had it out on the trail in VA president's day weekend in variable conditions: fair at best.

While the sturdy construction, ventilation, easy set up, and light weight are major plusses, the rainfly is completely insufficient. Not only is the vestibule cramped, but the rainfly does not cover the ends sufficiently to keep moisture out. The tent walls were soaked. On the upside, the floor did not leak, but the tent walls were not adequately protected.

I do not camp enough to justify multiple tents, and was looking for an all weather tent (some sun, some rain, some snow). If you are looking for one too, you might want to look elsewhere.

My reservations about the one window design were baseless, as the ventilation is stellar, but a tent that cannot keep me dry is a no go!

If you want to buy mine, PM me.
Used twice (5 night total) with trimmed polyethylene ground cloth

excuse my ignorance, but couldn't you just use a rainfly from a different tent? or are they all tent specific?

They are different...per manufacturer and per style.

You cannot fit a rainfly designed for a one person tent on a tent that is designed for two people and still expect it to function.

If you take the make and model of the tent and shop for a similar model tent by another manufacturer, you may get a good but not precise fit, as with some companies put grommets and other wizardry in different places creating an inconvenient truth....

How odd...I bought my son this exact tent for his Scouting campouts and he's never had a problem. One particular campout (a week log winter camp) we received over 4" of rain in a 24 hr. period, his and mine (I have a different tent)were the only tent to stay dry. I've used his several times and camped out in some pretty bad thunderstoms and I too never got wet.
The vestibule is small though, but doesn't seem any smaller than my Clip Flashlight.
