This is the last shelter heading north before the notorious Governor Clement shelter.

Clarendon is very nice--not sure why it's never been written up on this site. I stayed here on Oct 7, 2007, with a friendly father-son team and a flip-flopper. Clarendon is in the familiar three-sided VT design, with 2 2-person bunks on either side and a picnic table in the middle. There's room for 8 hikers easy, a few more could be squeezed in given bad weather. Fire pit in front, privy not far off. Water from a stream near the shelter, which was running fine that day. The shelter looks on pretty woods to the south, and there seemed to be plenty of level ground around for tenting.

Ya, I love this place. Pulled in late one afternoon in July 2005 after a giant dinner at the Whistle Stop Diner. The setting sun spilled across the clearing and shined right on the stream. Beautiful place. Pleasant conversation that night with Colonel Forbin and Captain Crunch. It's in my journal on the link above.

Lotta folks there the night I stayed... I was in my tent -- lots of tent space. Some local(s) had dumped ton of nicely cut/split firewood in front of the shelter. Good crowd, good campfire.

No memory of water problems there, nor any mention of such in my journal. Water had been a minor issue the day after, at Greenwall shelter. It was August 2002.

There should never be a water problem there. There is a very large stream.
