I'm pretty sure Skyline lives in Luray... and he's caretaker of one of the SNP huts. Well known in "the hiking community" around those parts.

Everything you need in Luray. Caverns Hotel isn't cheep but it is really nice and of course across from the Caverns. There are plenty of hotels in Luray.
I went to the caverns when I was a kid and remember them to be well worth a look while you are in town

Stramn daight. Much better than the Shennandoah Caverns in Front Royal. The Florida Caverns are better than the Shennandoah Caverns in front Royal.

The Mimslyn Inn is a really nice historical hotel in Luray. I'm not sure the rates though.
When Hoover went to SNP for it's opening, his wife stayed at the Mimslyn because she didn't like camping. So it's a pretty neat place to visit, good food.
I'm a thru-hikers mom. My son is at Luray Hospital with his hiking companions. The gal, Driftwood has been sick for a while now and the guys have gotten her to the hospital. Is there something or someone locally who can help them out or just check in while they try to help her get back on the trail. Don't know the protocol for asking for help. Thanks all.:o

ckmom if you have AT Comp. his (Skyline) # is in there or PM me.
I believe we are talking about the three hikers we shuttled yesterday. Driftwood was having stomach issues. I dropped the two guys off at a motel, one of whom was named Colin, and dropped Driftwood off at the emergency room.
She didn't seem to be in any serious discomfort at the time, tho she said she had been earlier and that symptoms were recurring. This seemed one of those situations where she was being smart, and being proactive to catch whatever was wrong with her health before it got out of control. Again being proactive, she said she had health insurance which is good because the emergency room is probably the most expensive health care option she had.
I just spoke with Colin, and he said Driftwood's brother was driving to Luray today to pick her up and take her to his home in Northern Virginia.
As for the two guys, they are staying here one more night at a motel, and may return to the Trail tomorrow. I asked if there was anything they needed help with, and Colin said they were OK. I did give them a "tour" of the town yesterday on the way to the motel, so they know where everything they might need is located. They also have our number, which is 540-743-1355.
Um, I also told Colin he needs to call his mom. :)

Oooops! The shuttle service is actually operated by my partner, Rodney....www.mvshuttle.com.
I just help out by talking to those who need assistance to plan their hikes, and once in awhile I'll drive a shuttle.
We do not operate a hostel. We have an AT-style shelter, tentsites, private parking and many amenities on the property but it's for use by the occasional shuttle client who needs it, and we've invited trail maintenance crews to stay here. We're too far from the AT to be a meaningful hostel for long distance hikers, and we are stretched to the limit time-wise so that's not in the cards anyway.
Nice job Sky!!
The WB grapevine worked very well today!
Skyline you are the answer to a mom's prayers! Thanks indeed. The 3 hikers you shuttled yesterday are the 3 I was asking about. Colin did call his mom and I've been thoroughly "aw momed" but I don't mind. I'm glad Driftwood is being taken care of. The guys are going to take a few days off to hopefully pick her up and head north again.
Many thanks!

Are you guys located down by the river?

Nope, we are located in a rural/residential area a few miles north of Luray, off of US340. Not much around here but the cattle, horses, llamas, and goats. No chicken houses too close, so it smells great! Well, unless we have a lot of hikers visiting. :D

My boys used to live on the river by Fort Stover. Their Dad set the big fire in Stanley a couple of weeks ago.

So, um, would you be their dad?

I knew that would be confusing. You know how kids can have more than one Dad these days. I'm their step-dad. Believe it or not, he's their other step-dad.

Actually, the youngest of the three, that was his bio-dad.
