Mine is a Outdoor Research bag. Measures 18" X 9" across. I usually have around 6Lbs of food. It can hold more, I'd say max 10 Lbs, really packing it right.

Just depends on how "compact" you food is. Ramen noodles take up a good deal of room.

I used/use one of the Equinox 7" x 17" silnylon bags for my food. I also carry a small silnylon ditty bag for snacks and keep it near the top of my pack. I am able to pack up to 6 days of food in a bag of that size.

My chow bag is the large orange bag from an OR Helium Ditty Bag (http://www.outdoorresearch.com/site/helium_ditty_bags.html) set. It measures 12 7/8'x5 1/2' x 4'. It holds a full 5 day's chow easy.

I tried once to buy the "exact" size food bag. I underestimated, I never could get the bagels in there. Now I use a silnylon sack that I think is supposed to be for my coat. It's a little smaller than a sleeping bag stuff sack. I know it weighs a little more than the first one, but I can fit all my food it and roll it up if I need to. Food is so variable that trying get the "exact" size is problematic IMO. If you pick wrong and didn't make the bag (like I did) you're out $10 trying to save grams. So I suggest being conservative and going larger. Everyone eats differently especially for seven days. Perhaps just getting a shopping bag and throwing your food into it will show you what you need.

Bigger is better. At least for me.

:-?No one can aswer this except you because everyone has a differentr idea of what constitutes 7 days worth of food.

Try this:

1. Get 7 days worth of the type of food you will be eating.

2. See what size stuff sack is required for it.

3. Buy that size sack.

Also, if there are any boxed items, get as many of them into bags as you can. Boxes pack *****ty.

I use two medium size mesh bags from REI, one for snacks and one for meals. Like slogger, snacks on top, meals below. I prefer on longer trips to have the ability to distribute my weight. All my food in one bag can be painful, two bags makes it much easier.

Those Sea to Summit bags are great! And waterproof too.

Mine is a OR #4, Sil Nylon. It will easily hold 10 Lbs of food, & I think if I was prudent & packed very carefully I could get about 15 Lbs in. Don't know the dimensions, sorry.
