About 12 noon today we arrived back in Laramie. What can I say ..."Be it ever so simple there's no place like home". I must admit though that it's gonna take a me a few days to reacclimate myself to 7,200 feet of elevation. Doesn't take much for me to get winded here.

Thermostat had been set to around 58 degrees since we had left so first order of business was to get the heat going. Our 2 cats had pretty much trashed the house so next on the list will be to start cleaning up their mess. Next is the mound of mail that accumulated while we were gone.

But aside from all that it's great to be back in our own home. Now I start the process of figuring out where I go from here. No intention of going back to work for a while but sooner or later I will need to get my arse out of the recliner and reapproach the work situation.

I just want to say again how much I appreciated all the words of support and encouragment during this period of turmoil. My only hope now is that with the right medicines and focussed rehab I can regain the endurance and strength that the heart attack took away. Too soon to tell if I will be able to attend Trail Days or the PCT Kick-off that I had on my calendar but for the time being I'm keeping the slate clean.

Best regards to all ...

Just got this from 'Slogger:

Pretty good all things considered. I mean, compared to a couple weeks ago I have really made progress. That said ...I've still got a LONG way to go. I start rehab (monitored exercise) next week over at the hospital. Still no idea when I can go back to work - - not that I really want to - - but the bills have already started to come in and I haven't hit the lottery yet.

I think the fairest way to describe my progress would be 2 steps forward and one to the rear. I have good days and then out of the blue I have a day now and then when I can barely make it. A lot has to do with the cardiac meds they have me on. They affect my blood pressure and mood (negatively) but they are critical in terms of healing the damage to my heart muscle.

Thanks for asking though man. This is without a doubt the hardest thing I've ever had to try and wrap my arms and brain around. **** like this doesn't happen to guys like me ...right ?? But in the end I have to accept the reality of the situation.

I'll be back ...it's just gonna take some time.

All the best ...

Thought everyone would want to know.

You know what I like about what Slogger wrote? It is the fact that he is not in denial. And I know exactly what he is going thru.

You know the horrible thing is that you will tend to feel very alone until you are able to understand that this one thing is what every human being in the world is going to have to face someday.

As TOW says, while wrapping your mind and arms around this seems lonely, several of us have been there and are with you in spirit.

Two step forward and one back is pretty much how rehab happens. I was chomping at the bit to get on my PT after the accident, but when I pushed it too hard, I found myself taking a step back.

It will take a while for you to be comfortable in this new reality, but you will get there.

==================================

As much as I can. Weather has been pretty bad so walks are actually "painful" at times with the temps and winds. I had my first rehab session today. Went very well, at least in my opinion. Heart tolerated good pace on tread mill and bike without any PVC's or weird rythms. Highest my heart rate has been since the attack and it felt GREAT. Came home and felt a little whipped. Sat on the edge of the bed and the next thing I knew I was waking up from a 3 hour nap. Guess I worked pretty hard in rehab, plus it's the first exercise I have gotten since the attack. I think I'm gonna really like this rehab stuff !!

Stay tuned ...I am on my way back !!

As for progress ...finished my first week of rehab and so far so good. Ticker seems to be tolerating the exercise well. Have a lot more energy and appetite/body weight are improving. Still don't like this %&@#! implant in my left upper chest but I guess it's a small price to pay for an insurance policy
against further episodes.

Just got this from 'Slogger:

Still going at the rehab thing full bore. I'm either going to get better or kill myself - - I'm leaning more toward the getting better side myself.

Bugs me that I won't be heading out to the PCT kick-off party this year but I can't do it all and I had to chose between my 5 year AT thru anniversary at Trail Days in Damascus or a trip out west to get ready for a hike I might not be able to even make. Long story short short ...I (we've) decided to travel to Damascus in May for Trail Days.

Otherwise things are going as well as can be expected. Have a follow-up appt with cardiologist this week to talk over a lot of stuff.

We're cheering for ya, buddy. Keep up the good work.

Hang in. Surviving the LAD MI is not a small feat. When I told my wife where you'd ended up in the ER, it drew an eye-roll. She remembers it as the place where we did an 180 in a blizzard and ended up driving down the highway backwards on snow pack. She ended up in the ER in Frisco once with acute mountain sickness, and that was an emergency ride to Denver for us...
