Looking at options for a new three-season sleeping pad.

In the past, I've been using a short model Z-Lite or other 20" wide CCF pad. However, I'm a side sleeper and have a pretty big frame and the more I use these narrow pads the more I dislike them and feel I need something a bit wider. The inflatable 25" offerings from folks like Exped and ThermaRest are interesting but I really don't need the extra length these also provide. I'm just looking for extra width not length.

I am currently thinking of buying a 30" x 80" - 1/4" thick foam pad from Ed Speer and cutting it half and joining the two giving me a 1/2" thick 30" x 40" pad weighing 12 oz. Another option is to go with the large RidgeRest pad which measures 25" x 77" and trimming some of the length off to reduce weight. It would be a little bit thicker than my DIY modification of the Ed Speer pad but not as wide.

Any other idears?

Thanks

The Big Agnes Air Core which is more like a swimming float is fantastic. It does not have foam which means you have to blow it up, but it is very comfortable and creates a nice layer of insulation. I also have a big frame and I experienced similar problems with Thermarest products. The Air Core has solved my problems. It's also very small so trims down some the bulk that Thermarest pads have.

I don't see how a Big Agnes Air Core would help me any. According to bigagnes.com (http://bigagnes.com/str_pads.php?bid=4), Air Core pads only come in 20" widths and, as stated in my original post, I am looking for something a little bit wider.

You can get 72"x28"x0.375" blue foam pads at Walmart or Canadian Tire, etc.
I like the extra width in winter.
