I have a TnF Beeline 900 sleeping bag. I love everything about the bag except that it doesn't have a zipper. I was thinking of adding one to it, maybe a 1/2 length zipper. Has anyone attempted to "enhance" a down bag like this and what kind of luck did you have? Thanks.

i guess if it doesn't work you can say you had a nightmare and woke up broken out of the bag and collect on your TNF warranty :D

i had a buddy who put a center half zipper on the top of one. It came out real well. If I recall , he marked the length of the zipper on the bag and ran two parallel seams along this length about 1/4' apart. He cut this away and sewed in the zipper. Not too much mess. Good l;***. I'll try and get some pics to post.

You could also just open a seam and stitch it back together and not have a zipper, you would essentially have a quilt. It'll be just as warm. Since the bag doesn't have a hood you'll need a good fluffy balaclava or bomber hat. Ray Jardine has a kit for the latter.

Do you know if he lost any of the degree rating when he put the zipper in? That's the other thing I worry about. By putting in a zipper I take the 20 degree bag and make it into a 40 degree bag.

you'd have to make a draft tube i suppose. buy something made of cheap down at goodwill and tear it's guts out, then a 6' long piece of fabric (or however long your zipper will be) in a tube shape, stuff full of down and sew to bag. an idea anyway
