http://www.oldeworldsantas.com/face-nw3-07.jpg (http://www.oldeworldsantas.com/canorth.htm) The Canadian North Santas (http://www.oldeworldsantas.com/canorth.htm)
These original Santas are interpretations of how our very own Canadian Santa could appear. They are 'one of a kind' dressed for Canada's North, with a a rustic, 'Woodsy' appeal.
The spirit of woodsy may be encountered either in Gulf Hagas or many miles either side in June this year if you happen to be going through the area, don't be afraid, he is harmless.

Interesting, I was just going through my old Data Books today and planning the Gulf Hagas trail on my hike this June. Weird. Maybe there will be a photo of the elusive Woodsy soon afterall.

Stop this nonsense, would you! There is a woodsy in the wilds of Maine and it's no one's business what that particular WhiteBlaze member looks like.
Maybe the entity with which you are obsessed is Amish and doesn't want his likeness known to the world. Enough already, person who does not exist!

You've got that right, my friend. Too many folks over there who get off on silly Photoshopped images which take entirely too long to display with dial-up and wait when quoted.
It's enough to cause one to forsake WhiteBlaze and take up hiking permanently just to get away from it. Seems you can't even get any peace in the wilds. It's gone entirely too far when the enemy invades your own home.

I figured out the part about moving on long ago. I once had what I thought was the best ISP. This negotiating downward non-sense when I'm paying for it and don't consent to it is getting old.
Reworking my native wildflower beds earlier today transported me into another state of mind. The dividends I'm seeing on time invested years ago is priceless as I grow older and it ain't taxed either.

:::: Dino wraps a loving tail around all her imaginary friends ::::
This board is huge and diverse. That some friction exists between members who are passionate about differing viewpoints is hardly surprising. IMO, civil discourse - even when heated - about the pros and cons of our beliefs is a healthy thing - it encourages both sides to think and grow.
We have members who enjoy playing until they can get out and hike as opposed to those who want 'just the facts, m'am'. We try to provide areas where both posting / reading styles are available.
I'd like to apologize to those on dial-up IPs for the posting of pics. I normally try to keep that to the humor or non-AT area because I was on dial-up for years longer than most and remember how frustrating pics could be.
When I post in hiking related threads, I generally don't post pics unless needed to convey an idea (example: I'll be posting several in the homemade gear forum this week as I'm tweaking a new bugnet + BA-type floor design to be used under our tarp - see the second half of this journal entry (http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=221103) for humorous details of why or the numbered part at the bottom for you 'just the facts, m'am' types)
Dino makes some good points above.
No apology necessary for me anyway, my slow dial up is my prob and theres no way around it living in many rural areas at this time. If the pics are too big I just move on, no big deal.
SOG: Reworking my native wildflower beds earlier today transported me into another state of mind.Must find flyrod......and get transported.....to another state of mind, hehe

She may be, if she exists, more likely to know than anyone. I'm still working on whether she exists. If he exists, although it seems to matter more to me more whether she exists, his existence should matter more to her than whether I exist and I would hasten to add I remain adamant that I don't.

More to follow as this developing story breaks. . .
He's tied up checking on ice conditions N of Middle Creek. The swans and geese want nothing to do with Middle Creek's resident bald eagles eating their friends taken out by coyotes under the cover of darkness.
It ain't just red-eyed vireos keeping both birds and hikers moving north.

Hi,
this is woodsy's wife
He can't come out and play much right now. I've got him busy putting a new layer of tar paper on the walls and roof of the shack and outhouse, getting us ready for another long winter. He's got lots of firewood to chop too.
You can have him back when I'm done getting some work out of him.

Glad to see there IS such a thing as a Woodsy. . .Maybe today. Tomorrow, who knows? Existence is but a subjective event. Here today, gone yesterday.

He is now, as Orwell would have said, an unperson.

Uh...ok....so are we lamenting Whargy existing or not existing ...er....or was it woodsy that exists....doesn't exist? It's all so confusing. Did either or both of them get eaten by a dragon or did they stay in too many shelters?:-?

I'm new here and it took me a while to read this thread, but, I thought this was a hiking site. What does this have to do with hiking?
Monkeyboy

Actually, according to the site, its a community for Appalachian Trail Enthusiasts.
Not to mention, IMHO, if it were just about hiking, it would be very dull indeed......

I think the word you are looking for is "holler". A low spot between mountains.
Well that would explain the high and low part. :D

I disagree - a low spot between mountains is a gap - a holler is a low spot in the side of a mountain

I expect this site to go from lower then a alligators belly to higher then them hikers that smoke that dope on the trail and everything in between. I met a guy named Warren Doyle that said there was a lot of good info here.

Then how do you explain "Hell Hollow Brook" or "Codding Hollow Rd." or "Bear Hollow Shelter" - all in Vermont?
Oh that's right - I guess to you Downeast'ers, VT is in the south.

Um, yeah, everything south of the ME border is southern to us hillbillies.
We've got notches too, like gaps and cols.
Smugglers Notch is down south in VT.

I have been informed that I may have inadvertantly brought up some subjects that some may find offensive. I was un ware and appoligize if I have. I was told to never mention Warren Doyle, Wharraghy, alligator, guns, umbrella, inseams or hiking poles. This list makes no sense what's so ever but I will refrain. Someone should make a list so new folks would know. Anyone going hiking this weekend?
