I am using a 3/4 length Z-Rest with 2 sections cut out. I also don't have a scale. Anyone have any idea what it may weigh? I am trying to decide to stay with the current set up or look for something else, if I can shed some weight. Thanks.

Determine the weight for the Z rest prior to alteration. Divide the weight by the length. That will give you a oz. per inch. Then multiply by the length in inches and there you are.

Or take the original weight, multiply it by the current number of sections, and divide it by the original number of sections. If it is a 20" x 51" Z-Lite, it should weigh around 11 ounces according to their website. I don't see a Z-Rest listed.

Or take it to the Post Office and weigh it there. That weigh you could get an exact weight instead of using the manufacturer's stated weight.

You might try rounding off the corners, too. A thousand grams make a kilogram.

4 grams if you make it only a inch long!!!!!

less than one that is not cut.... sorry had to say it, to be cool on the white blaze have have to be an @ss apparently.

seriously i like the idea of takin the manufacter weight and dividing by the number of sections. You can probably add an oz or two to the manufacter weight as there scales are at higher altitudes and often different than ours here on earth.

Why not replace the pad entirely with a Gossamer Gear nightlite pad? 3.2 oz, I think. Same R value.

It looks like a 3/4 length thermarest Z-rest weights 11.5 ounces.

So you can probably figure it out from there.

I think a 28"x72"x0.375" blue foam pad weighs about 10 oz.
Roughly 200 square inches per ounce.
So roughly 1 ounce for every 10" of length for a 20" wide pad.

Jak,
My blue foam pad is only 7oz. in that size. I have ended up just using it as a second insulator for winter camping though...I need more padding as I get older!:D
