I'm not sure why they decided at 2am to go ahead and hike in to town, but rain had something to do with it. Told him about Runsalone. The Only Wanderer was making chicken for dinner, and the merman made a couple of comments about how good it smelled while it cooked. He got new shoes today, and mailed home his heavier winter gear and cook stove. He's starting to decide he needs to be ultra-light. When he starts cutting off the handle of his toothbrush, I'll really start worrying. His journal updates are in progress. I think that was the jest of it. :)

Dang, they're moving. I guess with Runsalone down sick, there isn't a whole lot of chance of him catching your merman. Too bad!

Glad to hear TOW is taking care of him. Hoping if Runsalone makes it that far, he'll get similar treatment.

We were actually planning on swapping out his pack and bag at Damascus. Got to get him back on the trail first.

BTW, he did cut the handle off. He claims it was to make it fit better.:D He ended up taking a different one though that folds into itself.

I wok from home transcribing insurance interviews. Pay isn't great but it keeps me from having to worry about my daughter this summer since I don't have anywhere for her to go during the summer and I'm not ready for her to spend all day 5 days a week at home alone yet.

Unfortunately, he ran out of time at the library to fill in details, but it looks like they did 12 miles the day before, then 29 miles, then today's zero. Guess it depends on how you count it. I think they got in town in the early AM.

In hindsight one of my best days on the trail was a 6 mile day through 6 miles of blowdowns that blocked us from ascending the peak.

I've never been more tired and dissillusioned from a hike (after all, it was only 6 MILES!!!!). I still have scars from all the thorn trees that I fought all day, and memories of losing my bag to one while being too tired to notice. At the time it was the 2nd crappiest day that I've ever hiked (ironically, the crappiest days was the day before that, it was nicknamed the "Hell march") but its the one that I still talk about the most. Wouldn't trade that day for the world :sun

I pretty much max out at 9-10 miles. Maybe one day if I get in better shape or can take lots of time off work and just head out. Problem is finding others to hike with. (That's just my mailing address, and is over a mile away)
