Weird thing is my salary went up in that move - some firms want a lot more overhead.

Back in immediate post-college days I hung out with a guy who when he wanted to go to a bar to meet others, he would say: "I could go for a Jenny now!" which was a play on both the popularity of the name Jennifer at that time and a brand of beer from that region. Plus it was an excuse to smoke cheap cigars, which was at the time legal in that state.

Fits right into the Jen thread...cheap cigars good whiskey and high class hiker women...Nirvana

Maybe they thought that even havinng a man discuss areas close to the mommy parts was over the top.

I've noticed the same sort of reaction when ladies are looking through the bras and panties at the REI I work in. If I ask if they need help, some of them just shrink as if me seeing them looking at underwear is close to me seeing them in their underwear. For all the mothers and aunts in this thread:

A woman, renewing her driver's license at the County Clerk 's office, was asked by the woman recorder to state her occupation. She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself.

'What I mean is, ' explained the recorder, 'do you have a job or are you just a ..?' 'Of course I have a job,' snapped the woman. 'I'm a Mom.' 'We don't list 'Mom' as an occupation, 'housewife' covers it,' said the recorder emphatically.

I forgot all about her story until one day I found myself in the same situation, this time at our own Town Hall. The Clerk was obviously a career woman, poised, efficient, and possessed of a high sounding title like, 'Official Interrogator' or 'Town Registrar.' 'What is your occupation?' she probed.

What made me say it? I do not know. The words simply popped out. 'I'm a Research Associate in the field of Child Development and Human Relations.' The clerk paused, ball-point pen frozen in mid air and
looked up as though she had not heard right.

I repeated the title slowly emphasizing the most significant words. Then I stared with wonder as my pronouncement was written, in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire. 'Might I ask,' said the clerk with new interest, 'just what you do in your field?'

Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice, I heard myself reply, 'I have a continuing program of research (what mother doesn't) in the laboratory and in the field (normally I would have said indoors and out). I'm working for my Masters, (first the Lord and then the whole family) and already have four credits (all daughters). Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities (any mother care to disagree?) and I often work 14 hours a day, (24 is more like it). The job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers and the rewards are more of a satisfaction rather than just money.'

There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk's voice as she completed the form, stood up, and personally ushered me to the door.

As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up by my glamorous new career, I was greeted by my lab assistants -- ages 13, 7, and 3. Upstairs I could hear our new experimental model, (a 6 month old baby) in the child development program, testing out a new vocal pattern. I felt I had scored a beat on bureaucracy! And I had gone on the official records as someone more distinguished and indispensable to mankind than 'just another Mom.'

So... this means grandmothers are 'Senior Research associates in the field of Child Development and Human Relations'.... And great grandmothers are 'Executive Senior Research Associates' It also makes Aunts 'Associate Research Assistants.'

Heh, I like hiking with the kid that I went with on that trip, every hike has been an adventure, whether not sleeping the first night to make up for the late depature, a land slide blocking the hwy that we were supposed to leave on, snow, unexpected 12" of snow at base followed by a week of temps below 32*F etc....:banana:banana:banana

They end up being hellishly well remembered trips

Que lastima is good. My favorite spanish word was from the first year 1st dialog. Albondigas! I say it all the time and I got a big kick when I found out what it was slang for. The pirate boat in my favorite movie Captain Ron was named albondigas.

I'm heading up to Lehigh Gap tommorrow with a couple of my bro's to do some hiking. Got a little one due any day now, so I don't want to wander off too far.......I am so excited to get to introduce her to the wonderful world we all live in:bananaI've already been checking out the child carrier backpacks.....

Very cool Jaybird. Is this your first child? I've raised 2 daughters and it is fabulous. Special bond between Dad and Daughters. Enjoy.

Yeah it looks like southern AZ. Is that correct? I did a nice trip in AZ a while back. In he red rock canyons SW of Sedona just North of Jerome. A place called Sycamore Canyon. Very nice trip.

Seems the Dinos have another grandson... he is five months old and both we and the father just found out. We haven't met the little fellow yet, but from pics he looks just like his Dad did.

Frequently, Lake Nockamixon...there's a limit on horsepower there, so it's nice for sailboats.

I've also launched in Key West to visit the Dry Tortugas (http://mycyberbuddy.com/ConchCruisers/Photos/Beached%20at%20Loggerhead%20Key%202.jpg), and Homestead to go across to The Bahamas (http://mycyberbuddy.com/conchcruisers/photos2005/julieann/oliviadock.jpg), among other places.

I'm looking into accessing the Chesapeake at Havre de Grace, MD (http://www.baysail.net/), too.
(It's about the closest place to home for that...)

Where's Bohemia Bay Yacht Harbor?

JennFrick, I had the birds and bees talk with this guy about a decade ago - apparently he forgot the admonition to 'keep it in your pants or keep it in latex' (currently known as 'Don't be silly, wrap your willy') and 'don't take a girl's word that she is on BC until you see some evidence - you are as responsible for protecting yourself from disease and pregnancy as the woman is.'

Any good threads out there worth reading? The Warren Thing is funny at times. Otherwise uuunnnnhhh, IMO. The Escapism thing was interesting at first.
