OK, spring break for my kids is next week. I'm taking a few days off and since gas is so darned high, we will be sticking close to home. One week from today I have a day of hiking planned. We will summit Brasstown Bald from the parking lot via the easy paved trail. But there is another unnamed (so far as I know) summit on the opposite end of the ridge from the parking lot at coordinates 34.8436 -83.8088. The summit is listed so far as I can find as Z0006GA. Supposedly 4561 feet above sea level. We want to summit this mountain from the parking lot as well, cook lunch up there, hang out, and come back down. Does anyone here know if there is a trail up there? Thanks for all the help. Oh yeah, that night we will be going to both the planetarium and observatory at Young Harris College. A definite recommend if you are in the area in the summer. Thanks again in advance for the help!!

Continue following the trail after you cross Hwy 180 and the trail will end at Chattahoochee Gap on the AT. The water source at Chattahoochee Gap is said to be the beginning of the mighty Chattahoochee River.
Enjoy!

Yeah, but I looked at that trail and the summit I am talking about is only like .5 of a mile from the back of the back of the Brasstown parking lot. The coordinates given on the links above show that summit at the right elevation, like I said, about .5 of mile from the parking lot (straight line shot).

There are 4 trails from the the Brasstown Bald parking Lot.
The link below give the name and a brief description of each along with the Ranger Station phone number. They may be able to help you.

You can also type in the name of each one in the Georgia Hiking link earlier, for another description. I have hiked each of them except the Wagon Train Trail and I don't think they do what you want although I am not a GPS person and don't know in which direction from Brasstown Bald this other summit is. But if its not a bald and there isn't a clearing, there probably wont be a good view if you have to bushwack to it.
The ARKAQUAH Trail crosses over Chimney Top which is about a mile walk from the parking lot. It is about 4300 feet in elevation. It ends at Track Rock where some ancient paintings are which might interest you.
I have not hiked the Wagon Train Tail but it is about 5 1/2 miles and runs almost into Yong Harris if that is where you plan to end up.

That sounds like it might be it, the one that ends at Track Rock. I am not sure. I am trying to summit all the 4000+ recorded peaks in Georgia (28 of them) and of course Brasstown is one. The other one is as listed above, which as I said, shows to be about 1/2 mile north of the parking lot. Brasstown is south of the parking lot. Thanks!
That .5 trail to the summit is a paved walkway. You can take that or catch a shuttle to the top. There is an observation deck on top. Went there several years ago with the cub scouts.

No, I know the trail to the summit of Brasstown is paved. I think I've probably been up there six or eight times.
What I am wondering about is the other summit opposite Brasstown. Listed as Z0006GA on the list of all peaks above 4000 in Georgia. The coordinates are 34.8636 -83.8088. This Z0006GA is listed at 4561 feet above sea level, a little more than 200 feet below Brasstown. But taller than Blood by just a little. If you use Google Earth you will see this peak is about .5 mile from the back side of the Brasstown parking lot. Exactly opposite the Brasstown summit.
Thanks!!
