I'm looking to meet up with my hubby in Hot Springs, NC but am having a hard time finding an inexpensive hotel, motel or B&B. Any suggestions?

Newport is a nice town about 20 miles from Hot Springs -- good suggestion LW.

You could always check into the cabins at the campground there in Hot Springs too.

There's also the Apline Court Motel, Duckett House B&B, Bridge St Cafe and Inn, Creekside Inn and Cabins, and Bright Leaf Junction in Hot Springs.

Got to love Elmers though,

Marshall and Mars Hill are not too far from Hot Springs. There a couple hotels right on I26. There is Newport and Clyde/Waynesville.

Didn't know there was lodging on Camp Creek. Any shuttle services up to the top of Camp Creek and around the area.

Go to a bigger town, Hot Springs does not really have that much. Elmer's is womderful, and the outfitter is pretty good, but that's about it. You will find more to do in a larger town.

I would not stay in Hot Springs, other than the hot springs the town has nothing to offer, Meet him in Dammascus, much nicer town. Stay at the Hike Inn or one of the other nice B&B's.

If only!! Damascus is 5 hours away and due to a school age child, I am only able to pull off weekend visits til this summer. Not to mention, gas is way expensive so the farther away we get, the harder it is to do financially. As it is, I will not be able to meet him as planned unless my tax return hits (keep your fingers crossed, I tracked them and it says they will hit by the end of this week). Hot Springs may not have much to offer but it's got the one thing I'm looking for...my husband! I don't care if we spend the entire weekend in a hotel looking at each other and neither dies he...he's just looking for some R&R and his wife.

Anyway, stupid question alert. I've seen several references in this thread as well as others to Elmer's but do not know what/where that is. Is that a hostel?

The Duckett House Inn, a beautiful century old B&B in Hot Springs, is one of the friendliest, and lovliest lodging places on the entire Trail. I very highly suggest you check it out. Call Brian or Frank for details at 828-622-7621.

Normally I would recommend Duckett House/Elmers as well, but you probably want more privacy than you would get there. It's a beautiful old house and you share a bath.

Yeah, I actually looked at the Duckett House but the room cost is a little more than we can swing right now especially with gas prices being as high as they are right now and um, yeah, privacy is greatly desired.:D:o:p

If you like Smalltown USA then Hotspings is for you. I really enjoy every trip there. I hope to live in the area one day.

I am going to add some info about other lodging along the trail near this area for those that may come along later and find this thread:

If you continue up I-26 past where you would exit for Hot Springs, you can can intersect your loved one a bit further north in Erwin, TN - near the beauty spot. There is a Super 8 Motel (http://www.super8.com/Super8/control/Booking/property_info?propertyId=07900&brandInfo=SE) there now - more economical than the Holiday Inn Express listed in most guides.

If you want to save some $$$ on lodging, drive up to Hampton, TN and stay at Laurel Fork Lodge (http://www.laurelforklodge.com/hikers.htm) ($25 / night for a private cabin - share bathhouse with others) Fantastic place for a weekend of privacy and relaxation - most hikers stay down the road at Kincora so you usually will not have lots of company. Hikers have use of a full kitchen for preparing meals.

Trust me, once he gets there, your husband is not want to drive all over the place. Just find a place in Hot Springs. What you don't spend on gas can go into your accommodations.

Good advice. My wife met me in HS, we stayed at the Alpine.

stay in HS. Go out and walk a part of the trail.

Actually folks, it's not looking real promising right now that this plan is going to come to fruition. If it does though, I think we will stay at Alpine. I appreciate all the other suggestions but he doesn't want to drive anywhere (bringing him home from Hiawasee last time just about killed him and he'd only been out on the trail for about a week), we need inexpensive, we want privacy and, after being out for over a month, he has no desire to share even a bath house.

Thanks again to everyone for their input!
