As the mom of a former thru hiker (prana 2006), I love being part of the AT community even from the sidelines (make that trailside.)
A friend whose son is currently a thru, maybe in the Smokies now, adapted the lyrics from the Bob Dylan song "A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" to celebrate his son's birthday today. I thought you all might enjoy this:
Oh where have you been my blue-eyed son?
Oh where have you been my darling young one?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains,
I've walked and I've crawled on six crooked pathways,
I've stepped in the middle of seven green forests,
I've been out in front of a dozen roughrivers,
I'm going two thousand miles all the way to Katahdin
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a h-a-a-a-r-d trail's a-gonna fall
