How about hammock use on CDT? Are there long areas where it is desert (NM) and use of a hammock would not work? Thanks.

Yeah, i think it would be a real pain to be always searching for trees the proper distance apart. CO you'd be ok. Can you put those things between barbed wire fence posts somehow? (more of them than trees a lot of places)
Be real tough in half of NM, most of WY and half of MT. Lots of trees in CO but would you really want to go down below treeline just to sleep in them?

Yeah...not so much. There are certainly sections of the CDT which have trees, but much of it is in desert or above treeline. A hammock wouldn't work so well. I did find that while on the PCT I could avoid a tent/tarp altogether, while on the CDT there was rain or the threat of rain almost every night so I set up a tent most nights.

Having lived in WY and knowing where the trail goes unless you can find a way to hang it from Sage brush you will be out of luck for most of the state.

You could always carry a 7 ounce hammock for those occasional opportunities.

What model of hammock are we talking about, Sgt.? (Thanks)
