What are the closest established (front country) campsites to Damascus? Are any right on or very near the Creeper Trail? Do these fill up at Trail Days?

Thanks both of you. I think I worded that not quite how I intended, but the information is helpful. I was considering bringing the kids down and car camping one night. I didn't know how close any alternative campgrounds were along the Creeper. I checked the FS in the mean time though and the closest I think was Beartree and it's closed? Even that seemed like a long ride.

I may just come down on Sat. and stay for the day. The plan is to trek them around on the bike trailer.

Backbone Rock campground is just 2 miles from the main trail days campground.

We camped at Grindstone a couple of years ago for Traildays. Nice campground, and basically empty. It's a bit of a drive, but not really that bad - less than 30 minutes, anyway.

The closest one I can think of is the RV park west of town (less than a mile) and it's real nice...

if you or your kids rock climb i'd recommend backbone rock like lw said, that is, if it's in the same area as backbone rock. where people rock climb. on backbone rock...right outside of damascus.

Thanks all. They aren't big enough to climb, although my 1 1/2 year old would without doubt give it a go if left to his own devices.
