According to the trail guide, overnight parking is not recommended at the NJ Rt. 284 trail crossing parking area. Anyone know why? Vandalism? Any suggestions on another parking area within a mile or so?

There is no real parking lot at that location. It's an area where the shoulder has been widened just enough to pull a few cars off the road. Unionville NY is about a half mile further north on 284 you may be able to find secure parking there. Where are you hiking to? The parking is probably safer at High Point or Waywayanda. Route 284 is about midway between those two locations.

Thanks for the info on the parking. Do to a time restriction, my group is only able to do a short section from the State Line Trail to Rt. 284. We'll judge that small parking area when we get there. Glad to learn that it's just a small area and not one that has vandalism problems.
