If your not a purist then take the Creeper Trail out of Damascus and go through the nice Taylors Valley and then take your pick of many great camp sites by the river. There is water every where this time of the year, so dont need to go heavy on carrring water. Get your water at Thomas Knob Shelter but go on past for about a quarter of a mile and camp in the pines with a great view. Go 1/10 past Wise Shelter, get your water and go straight up to many good spots for camping. Go into Troutdale and See Jerry at the Resturant and store. Geart food at good prices. Then stay at The Hostel, get a hot shower and good night rest and you will be glad you got off the trail.
