i think it was 'people who made stupid decisions and watched people die and want to rid themselves of blame and feelings of guilt', or it might have been 'money can't buy you a balcony seat'- whatever it was, it sucked.

Do you think Beck can trust people after being left twice by people he had to have believed would have his back? The Russian guy (Anatoli) was a true hero. The AT is not like that dangerous, but I believe we are much more of a family. When I hiked in 97, I remember Baltimore Jack literally carrying a hiker (Claudia) with a broken ankle for MILES to a rescue team. There where acts of kindness going on all the time...big and small.

The Everest show makes you think.

backpacking the a.t. is nothing like climbing everest, other than vaguely sharing some of the same gear manufacturers, comparing the two would be like saying fly fishing has similarities with whaling. jogging is like running a marathon, or rush limbaugh sometimes touches upon reality...apples and cinder blocks, my friend...

We learn and think about ideas associatively. From my perspective, my closest experience with Everest hikers is probably uphill exhaustion taking on that last mountain of the day on the AT combined with altitude of Whitney or Forrester Pass on the JMT...obviously not even close to Everest. The one similarity I feel is on target for comparison is the individual choices you make to help out members of your "family."

I liked the show and that is what popped into my brain.
