View Full Version : Pusher, 2 Months In!
2 months ago today (March 19th), i was leaving from springer in a hell of a rain storm, but now im sitting at the hostel in waynesboro! i will be in the SNP tomorrowand in harpers ferry in no time!
I'm planning on attemping the 4 State challenge, with anyone else bold enough to try it. i hope that if i slow down right before, it will give people enough time to catch up so i'm not doing it alone..
I would like to say hello to everyyone who i have met and left behind (since i need to be done by mid august) it was great meeting you and i hope to see you all sometime soon!

what is the 4 state challenge?
what is the 4 state challenge?Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please. As I understand it, the 4 Stae Challenge is setting foot in 4 state in a 24 hour period, consisting of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. The only states you actually traverse are WV and MD, but start in VA, just south of WV and finish in PA, just north of MD. Is that right?

for the 4-state challenge shouldn't you be starting around keys gap or david lesser shelter?(south of H.F.) alot of hikers seem to be leaving right out of harpers, thinking/saying they are doing the challenge...

Actually, I'm wrong, it'd be 2 1/2 state challenge. PA, MD and half of WV.

It counts. With an asterisk. ;)
When i did it, i started 2 miles south of HF where the VA/WV border are right on the trail, and it turned out to be be 43.5 miles. And i completely agree that it wasn't really that hard, it was just all day. I left by 3:50am and got to PA border at 8:50 for a total of 17 hours, the only thing that really got to me was that last downhill before penmar. all in all was a great trip, and i would do it again!

try the 45.7 into harpers ferry from manassas gap nobo... that'll give ya a little more of a challenge:)
maybe next time! Although it wouldnt be too bad because after the rollercoaster the terrain is fairly easyfor the last 15miles coming into HF

didn;t say anything about the last 15miles,i believe the first 30 would warm you up so you'd enjoy the last 15miles. still not as easy as the challenge overall. i've done both back to back try that then, your young piece of cake. just good to be out there, peace...

it seemed easier than in 99' when we stealthed camped on a couple hard ass concrete benches all night in harpers then waited a couple hours outside the A.T.C.building waiting for them to open.:)
