View Full Version : Devil Fork Gap/Spivey Gap parking
Can anyone give me some information about parking at the above two locations. I guess my largest concern would be car safety. Any know problems?

Plenty of parking at Devil Fork. Small turnout at Spivey Gap, though Spivey Gap picnic area is less than a half mile up the road. Then USFS road 278 is open at the moment. There is a small turnout/meadow on Flattop above the trail where it crosses the forest road.
Haven't heard of any recent safety concerns for either area. Though the Rector Laurel Road, which is across the hill, is a party spot for drinking and ATV traffic. But I would not want to park overnight.
Johnny's shuttles to both are around $25.

Any recent issues with either Devil Fork or Spivey Gap? Is it better to park at Spivey Gap (the turnout) or at the picnic area?

Any recent issues with either Devil Fork or Spivey Gap? Is it better to park at Spivey Gap (the turnout) or at the picnic area? The AT crossing at Spivey Gap is big enough for a 3-4 cars. I haven't gone up into the picnic area. I believe its gated, and it doesn't open until mid April. But I have parked at the AT trailhead and at the USFS 278&Spivey Gap sign along 19W for day hikes without incident. And parked at the Lost Cove Trailhead on the west wend of 278, no problems there.
I have parked at Devils Fork Gap for day hikes numerous times without incident. But don't try parking down on Rector Laurel Road, not any good parking there.

Parked cars in both spots (Devils Fork Gap and Spivey Gap), and had no issues last weekend (3/27/09 - 3/29/09).
