My brother and I have a college summer to do it. Out of the lecture halls and into the classroom of the the Appalachians. Seems like a good idea, got no house or family or job.
Intend to start thru-hike between April 1-7. Hoping to go NOBO, but might end up "flipping" south out of Harpers Ferry then jumping up to Katahdin and hiking back to Harpers Ferry. Trail name "Voyager." If I do go NOBO I will hike the approach trail.
Hi;

I'm making an attempt at becoming a pro triathlete so missing a triathlon season to hike is just not gonna happen. Hiking in the fall and early winter is my only option. I hate hearing people tell me I can't do it but I'd love to get a lot of help and advice so I can complete a winter thru-hike confidently and safely.

I had one of the most awesome-est experiences doing a thru hike in 2009. The people on the trail made it wonderful. I have so many new friends now.
Thanks WhiteBlaze for getting people together before, during and off the trail. And thanks for the ride in Maine!

I think you want to post that in the thru hiker registry- this is what people used to post before they're hikes. You want to be in the "2,000 mile alumni" (I think that's the new thru hike listing)
shlep . THIS IS THE CORRECT PLACE FOR A 2009 HIKER TO POST THEIR PROGRESS / COMPLETION OF THEIR HIKE ..SO THE REST OF US IN THE CLASS OF 2009 WILL KNOW HOW THEY DID...

If your looking for information on the thru, checkout "Loon"s journal on Trail Journals. One of the best I have read from last year. Filled, in the last few posts, with excellent list that cover a variety of topics concerning a through hike.

I agree with traildust. Loon's journal is one of my favorites. I've never met her, but I believe she must one of the most organized people on the trail. And, a great writer as well.
