First off, hello to the group Im new here. Second, I have a few questions I would like to ask. Im leaving this sat for a small section hike. Im leaving Neels Gap and headed to Deep Gap. (USFS Road 71) I have someone droping me off and headed to a place he likes to camp at the end of Tallulah River Road. (Old Tate City Road) He says there is a trail at the end of this road named Beech Creek-Chimney Rock Loop Trail. He said this trail also had a side trail that leads to the Appalachian Trail. He wasn't sure exactly where the trail intersects the AP, but he thought it was somewhere between the Muskrat Creek Shelter and Deep Gap. (USFS Road 71) So I plan to find this side trail and take it down to his campsite to be picked up. Do any of you wise hikers have any information I could use to find this side trail. Many thanks in advance, I look forward to seeing a lot of you out this next week.

The only Trail I know of that I passed is the Chunky Gal Trail Between Muskrat Creek Shelter and Deep Gap. There is also the Kimsey Creek Trail (the old AT) that is about 3.7 miles to Standing Indian Campground when you get to Deep Gap. Nice creek/river walk. Just make a left at the bear cans.

There is a blue blazed trail leading to Deep Gap at the end of Tate City road. Cross state line into N.C. and drive until road is gated by Forest Service. Follow the road bed to first creek crossing and pick up blue-blazed trail. The blazes are VERY faint and easy to lose! The trail will contiue to follow creek and ther are a couple of crossings before it begins to climb up. Keep a close eye out for the blazing!!! This is not a heavily used trail, so it sometimes seems you are not on a trail at all.
The last time I took this route it took about 2 hours to make it to Deep Gap. :D

Yea, I have a few and know how to use them very well. And I never leave my Thru-Hiker's Handbook at home either. Nothing I have or seen has these trails on them. I just want to know where they intersect or even if they do with the AT so we can hike down to the end of Tate City Road. I wish I could get ahold of Wingfoot, I know he would know!!

-SurveyorFriend,I know the trails you are looking for,From the Deep Gap side walk oppx 500 ft on the forest service service rd straight ahead as you are entering Deep Gap parking lot.You will see a blue blaze trail turning left which will lead you to the parking lot at Tate City community.

You will see 2 trails turning left off this trail, one is the beginning of the Beech gap trail which crosses the A T and proceeds to forest service 67.The other goes up the side of the mountain of Standing Indian summit.

As you are going down the old forest service rd from Deep Gap and don't turn left on the blue blaze trail this is an old logging rd that goes down behind Muskrat Creek shelter and just below Bly Gap coming out almost at the Tahula River. This is Hightower Gap Rd.If you turn right you will cross the A T at blue ridge Gap,If you turn left you will cross the river.

At this time you can turn right and go back in to Persimmon community, turn right to go back to US76 or left to Germany community and you can access Carter Gap and Bettys Creek A T trail crossings.

After you cross the Tahula River and you turn left it will lead you to the forest service parking lot which will be the beginning of the Deep Gap Trail. This loop on this circle is 8 rough miles with an active bears den after you cross the 2nd creek behind Muskrat Creek shelter. My advise is enjoy but don't go alone.Being around a bears den is not the same as running upon a bear away from his home. Not to scare you but they can be aggresive.
