View Full Version : Snake Bite...what to do
One of my friends at work got bitten on the toe last Friday by a snake that "left two holes". Lots of swelling and off to the ER, but without the snake. Doc gives tetnas shot plus some antibiotics and says "go home". Now the toe is turning black.
As we talked today, I'm thinking this is a bad situation. What can she do now? Amputate the toe? Take something..maybe more antibiotucs?
This is way outside my experience range. Any of you been through something like this?

The no brainer answer is...GO BACK TO A DOCTOR!

Well, definitely I think you should take the advice of a bunch of packsniffing cyber-hikers on this matter.
Get your friend to a doctor, ASAP. D'oh.

Yeah, she should go to the doctor. She should go right away because of a chance of systemic blood-borne infection or sepsis.
Likely if the toe is black it's dead. It will probably auto-amputate or fall off if the physician doesn't cut it off. Tell her not to pick at it either way and she shouldn't try to amputate it herself. It will probably smell funny while rotting if it is to auto-amputate.
If it's her big toe, she may want to do some physical therapy so she doesn't walk funny and cause other problems with her joints or muscles. She will be able to frighten small children if she shows it to them, especially if she takes out her dentures at the same time.
I have seen this a lot, usually in diabetics.
..what 'Tater said. I worked in a VA MED. Center.

Don't go to the doctor. Go to the hospital emergency room. NOW!

But did he call you from his new Comcast Digital Voice Home Phone?
Only funny if you have seen the commercial.

Maybe become a snake handling baptist, it seems to work for them as some type of anti-venom.

Go to A Doctor, not the same doctor. Then get a really good lawyer and sue the first doctor.
