The area being searched consists of rugged terrain without trails ranging in elevation from approximately 2,000 feet to 6,000 feet. The two women are experienced trail hikers but had limited experience with Alaska backcountry conditions, Fister said.

Five search teams, two dog teams, two helicopters and a fixed wing airplane out looking. Not good that they haven't found any sign of them yet. They're experienced hikers supposedly. If they were just lost, they should have started a signal fire by now and been found.
It does say most are found in good condition within 7-10 days.
They aren't the only ones missing there.
These two Japanese mountaineers (http://www.adn.com/outdoors/story/421263.html)are way overdue and may never be found.

Update:
"...KRIS FISTER, DENALI NATIONAL PARK: We still have found no sign of either one of the missing backpackers. We had 11 grounds crews out in the field today, and a crew is anywhere from three to four people. We use them to search the more heavily wooded and brushy areas that we can't search effectively from the air. So 11 ground crews, which included also two dog teams. We had three helicopters aiding the search effort today, and also one fixed-winged aircraft. So a lot of manpower, people power out there, a lot of resources, but still no sign of them...."

They're now 5 days overdue. Not a trace. This isn't likely to have a very good ending. :(
deleted...found alive and well

They have been found alive and well.
Nice to get a bit of good news; so many of these stories end so much differently.
