View Full Version : Hikers missing on Mt Shasta john gault 06-23-2008, 21:23 I guess it's hiking season http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/06/23/BAS011DNH7.DTL Summit 06-23-2008, 22:38 Having hiked to the summit of Mt. Shasta, it's hard to imagine getting lost. It's a treeless cone, basically, and very loose gravelly footing. You can pretty well shoot a straight path down, sliding most of the way. Hopefully they didn't succumb to exposure! On my hike my friend and I tented at about 12,000 ft on Labor Day weekend, and although it was over 100 degrees during the day, down in the valley below, a pot of water was half frozen the next morning. You can see in the pic there was still some snow around in early September! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/wellsjs/Misc/tray8047.jpg |
