Greetings from the Florida Trail.....With the fall hiking season not too far away I was wondering where would the most accommodating place to hike that is between 150 and 250 miles and has a bus line that is not too far away from the trail.
Marion Virginia has a bus line but I cannot find a good trailtown to end a hike except Roanoke. Not too bad of a route I must say .
Any input from you veteran hikers would be helpful. Please feel free to have other starting points for a good section hike that meet above criteria without a lot of shuttling.
Gorp has a nice link for fall hiking. Happy trails: http://gorp.away.com/gorp/resource/us_trail/at_fal2.htm (mhtml:{FB9338A7-DF92-4620-BC33-52E1F591779D}mid://00000004/!x-usc:http://gorp.away.com/gorp/resource/us_trail/at_fal2.htm)

I can give you an idea but you'll have to do some research (or someone here will chime in).
About 10 years ago I drove to Williamstown MA and hiked to Hanover NH (basically all of VT). VT is 150 miles. I took the bus from Hanover back to Willamstown. I don't remember the name of the bus line. I do remember that the bus also went to Boston and NY. Good luck.

Thanks for the info about bus lines further on up North. A little too far up North though.

How about from Delaware Water Gap to Pawling (NY Rt. 22)? It's 154 miles. You can get buses from either NYC or Phila to DWG and catch the train at Rt. 22 back to NYC.
Further south, Harpers Ferry to DWG - about 270 mostly easy miles (but including the PA rocks). Take train from Washington DC to HF and bus from DWG to Phila or NYC.

About the only section I have left to do is from Bear Mt to Kent Conn. I've done the Delaware Water Gap, nice trail. Yes I could incorporate it with what I have to do. Other than that I'm starting over or just getting a fall hike in before thinking about a thru next year. Those PA. rocks are tuff..

yep that's ok but i'd just have to have another car shuttle to pick up the bus at Roanoke. Might as well get the shuttle up North in Roanoke and walk SOBO to Marion VA. Another thought was Bob Peoples at Elk Park. I'd like to stay away from car shuttle there Lone Wolf...I. don't know...just kickin it around
