View Full Version : Best way to reach Kent,Ct (flying)
eric_plano 07-05-2008, 12:10 I am planning for a SOBO section from Kent to DWG.
Getting to NYC from DWG at the end is easy enough.
What is the best way to get to Kent? Should I fly in to Hartford and then is there a bus etc?
Thanks!
RITBlake 07-05-2008, 12:36 Kind of tricky because Kent is kind of in the middle of nowhere. But I live in this area and here is what I would do:
Fly in to Laguardia or JFK.
Take the shuttle to Grand Central Station.
Take the train from GCS to Danbury, CT
Now Danbury CT to Kent is up to you. It's a straight shot up route 7. Personally I would hitch hike but I'm sure you could arrange for a car service or taxi. There might even be someone in the area who runs AT shuttles.
Hope this helps, let me know if you need any more help w/ the logistics/train workings.
_terrapin_ 07-05-2008, 13:04 RITBlake has the best plan, it seems to me. South-western CT is more or less a distant suburb of New York City, so there's decent commuter service to many towns in that part of CT.
I always fly into Bradley (Ma) when I go to CT. Smaller. Less crowded. Don't know about rides to Kent tho'.
Might be worth checking into. :-?

bradley airport is in connecticut
bradley airport is in connecticut
OK. I thought it was in Ma. It's up there near the border though.
Thanks for the clarification. :sun
I like it because it is much easier and faster to get through.
_terrapin_ 07-05-2008, 13:30 Clue me in... Where's Bradley, MA? :-? No such place at Google maps or in my DeLorme Gazeteer for MA.
Looking into the OP's question, Springfield MA and Hartford CT came to mind -- but it seems to me that NYC would have the best connections via public transport. Kent really is in the middle of nowhere.
Lone Wolf 07-05-2008, 13:31 Bonanza bus lines used to service kent

No. Bradley Intl Airport. ... and it is in Ct. as LW pointed out.
Sorry for the confusion.:o
modiyooch 07-05-2008, 13:45 I May, I saw a bus line that picked up a group of hikers at Bulls Market on 7 below Kent. I don't recall the bus line.
Old Grouse 07-05-2008, 15:19 Yes, you could take the train as far as Danbury (New Haven line from Grand Central, then switch at South Norwalk onto the Danbury branch). But actually you can get farther north and thus closer to Kent by train from NYC by taking the Harlem line out of Grand Central to Pawling NY and a cab from there over to Kent. Might want to google cab services in Pawling and call one to confirm price and availability. Danbury would only be my choice if hitchhiking.

That was going to be my other suggestion! :)
Either way works. If you don't mind hitching I would say go through Danbury.
I live in the area and am very familiar with the train lines. The Harlem line to Pawling is best. Danbury line is slower and is a longer hitch/cab ride. Actually, hitching is rare in Danbury and could be problematic.
Bradley airport is north of Hartford and a long way from Kent.
eric_plano 07-05-2008, 20:50 Thanks everyone! Glad I asked insead of winging it :)
