Ok throwing this out early. Planning a SoBo trip through SNP somewhere in the time around the middle or end of Sept. Heck Wrongway is even saying that he may be done with his thru by then and join in for the stroll south and of you other Parade O'Fools alumni care to join in?

Dates are still very open but sometime in the second half of Sept. That will give Wrongway aka Mr Fluffly Fuzzy Bottoms a chance to get back from up in Maine. Possible another current Thru may join as well his name is Loveboat. To just complete from where I got off trail I will be starting at Front Royal area. I am planning to try and do the whole park getting off down at Waynesboro in the South. That is as planned out as it is right now. Typical Fool's style.

I am trying to do a hike of the 100 mile Wilderness in ME late Sept. If that falls through I may be up for SNP. I live in VA Beach so that would work. Keep us posted on the dates and I'll let you know.

I'm in! Might be bringing BOTH dogs - will be fun! I am shure Sasquatch will have the dates/times and meeting places posted at around 18 hours before the hike starts.......... typical Fools style. Even with that...... plans usually change in the parking lot before the hike starts :) !

All right now fellow hiker trash........ get the time off or leave your jobs...... our trips are that good!!!!

Take care, be safe and we hope to see you on this hike :) !

Any more progress on the start date? This may work for a primer for my Maine hike. I know it might be last minute (trail head) planning which could be interesting, but I have to let the boss (wife) know. Maybe I could help out with shuttles and do part of the fools trek?? Let me know if you guys get any solid (I understand it might be more like jello) plans.

That is when we were passing through the Shenandoahs last year on our SOBO thru! The leaves will just be starting to change. Will be super nice, less crowds and tourists thanks to school being in session already. Temps still pretty warm but pretending to cool down, plus all the Waysides! Wish I could join you but I am choosing to make a trip to the gathering in Oct. I am heading to VT in 2 weeks, can't wait!

Have a great hike of the LT Boo Boo. It looked like a great time on the WCT. I think that some day I would love to get out there and do that one what better way to see that part of the country.

Come on people, jump in and have some fun, if you cant do the whole thing just come along for a night or 2 - there are lots of places to meet up with the group. going to be a good time!!!
Weather will be nice and you will most likely get to meet some South bounders.

Ya know what ? I'm in too. Though, maybe not for the whole thing. Will be fun getting to meet a few of you in person instead of just on the phone. Let me know exact times. (at least narrow it down as it gets closer)
Thanks

Man! I'm doing a SoBo in SNP before September. But my non-hiking DH and I like to spend a weekend at Big Meadows Lodge every September and use it as a base for day hikes off the AT. Is anyone planning on spending any time at the Tap Room?

Ok I have figured out a start date for the SoBo trip through SNP. I plan to travel down on Friday the 19th and just go to the first shelter south of Front Royal on that day. I have blocked out more time than needed for just the park and hope to go for even longer but will have to see what life throws at me.

Don't know if I can swing the timeframe but I'm certainly interested. Question: You are starting at Front Royal and ending at Waynesboro? How will you get back to Front Royal (to return to the vehicle)?

When do you plan to finish up? I may be able to help with a shuttle.

That is a great area Doggiebag and myself did it this past April and had a blast. I don't think that it will work to meet up this time I hope that by those dates I will be almost if not completly out o e park headed south. I know the start of my trip is firm the back end is a bit still open I think that I may be able to stay out as late as the 29th on this little trip and still have enough spoucel karma saved up to do a 3 or 4 day trip in Oct to wrap up Ct/Mass

I might be interested in joining you if it's late Sep. How many miles do you think you'll be doing each day?

sasquatch2014

I have not done the park before but most people say that 20 a day through the park is very easy to do. Less the first day as that is where the big climb of the trip is getting up onto othe ridge line.

When you get your dates firmed up - let me know so I can help you shuttle into the trailhead and back out to your vehicle when you're done. It's the least I could do for all the folks you've been helping up north.

The Bird Cage is one of the two places in the town of Dalton Mass that you can stay in town. Tom Levardi is the other guy who lets hikers stay at his place as well.

Looks like I'll see you guys in the park. Plan is shuttle to Rockfish Gap (wife) on the 21st then go until I reach Harpers Ferry and Amtrak back to Va Beach. Should be fun. Anyone esle up for a NOBO?? The SOBO just won't work out due to my sons hockey games in Richmond on the 20th.

Retirement from the Navy on Oct 17th... need time beforehand to get things in order, hence the mid-Sept start.

sasquatch2014
08-24-2008, 22:19
We will have to keep an eye out for each other as we pass in the park. Plan as still pretty open right now for me but thinking that I would almost like to just get on the trail with no plans for anything other than to walk south until its time to get home. You know let all the stuff in the middle sort itself out.

Looks lke I am going to sit around the house and fatten up for a while, lost a little over 40 pounds on the thru-hike.

This is a good area and 20 mile days will be easy for you, your hiking harder stuff around your house. Looks like the weather will be in your favor also.

will drop you a call tonight.

I know you like to cook with grease so i'll try to find a recipe for Deep Fried Twinkie's that will be sure to add the lbs right back on to you in on time at all.

Counting the days until my hike and until I go and get this tooth yanked. I feel like i have lost a few days time to the haze that is Vicoden.:p

I am home thanks in big part to Wrongway for shuttling me back up to my car in Front Royal. He now knows why I shave my head. You know you can make killer time you is just do a bit more than double the posted limit through Construction areas.

"Excuse me sir, License and Registration please."

"Oh! is that a Badge I see?"

"Please sir have a great day. You know if it were your smelly scruffy buddy sitting next to you that was driving we would be giving passing motorist a demonstration on how to bludgeon someone with a police baton while handcuffing them and tossing them in the back of a patrol car. But not you. You have a nice day"

I swear to god that is exactly how I recall it going down.
