I guess no other Whiteblaze member/reader is riding the Hotter N Hell 100. This is a great ride and lots of fun, -they expect 12,000 riders this year. I think if one could do this that person is doing pretty good as far as getting in shape for hiking.

i did the HTHH back in 1998 when i was first stationed at fort sill oklahoma about an hour north. it is a great time, the numbers of folks is huge! and the gear-fest the night prior rocks.
My wife and I rode in the Hotter N Hell in 1987 when we lived in Wichita Falls. It was a great experience. I didn't do a thru until 2005 so the training effect was not a factor. Have fun.

Thanks. We are camping next to the Bridwell Ctr., so can use my neat little tent! Practice for AT. Might take my HH but don't know if there are any trees there at the Ctr. Might take both! I am riding a recumbent. Same one I rode from TX to Florence, OR. What fun it will be!

Well, it all ended before the HH1001 I got up on Sat morning and got all geared up and rode my bike up over to the start. I was riding a Longbike-recumbent. I rode this bibke across the country and it has some great memories and times tied to it. Anyway, I got to the start and was riding through all the bikers and realized I would have to stop to walk through them to get to the start where recumbents and tandems started. I stopped and got my left foot out of the shoe clip thingy (underneath the cycling shoe) I put that foot on the ground, was trying to get the right foot out and I lost footing on the ground with my left and went down. I rolled out of the bike and all. The only problem was my right foot did not come loose until my right knee was dislocated. They took me to the hospital in an ambulance. It was very humiliating and embarassing. Lots of bikers looking on. I am on sick leave right now and so far have avoided surgery. I sold the bike, though. I did have an accident on it before this and broke my right ankle. So I decided there is not going to be a third time. This is real disapointing though, because there is no ride like a recumbent. Well, I hope to return to the HH100 next year on my . . . -hybrid (commuter) bike! Thanks one and all. -SunnyWalker
