As I have been hearing, this has become a bit of a challenge. I need to get from the airport in Philly tomorrow to Port Clinton. Seems the Capitol Trailways (Greyhound related) doesn't stop there anymore? Their phone support person said Port Clinton isn't in the system although it is still listed as a "flag stop" on their website. Capital does stop at Reading and Pottsville and Barta runs a bus from Reading to Cabela"s and Cabela's still does a shuttle but looks like we'll miss the boat at Reading (time wise would put us into late night out of Reading and past shuttle time for Cabela's) tomorrow. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Muchly!!!!

Since you said you can get to Pottsville or Cabela's...the outfitter at Port Clinton can do a shuttle for you from there: http://www.yeoldebackpacker.com/

Or all the way from Philly International, for that matter...

Thank You Kind Sir! I called Ye Old Backpacker and they said the CapitolTrailways/Greyhound bus may just let us off at Port Clinton after all but, if not, they will shuttle from somewheres' close (Hamburg, Shuykill Haven?) if not AND they are open 'till 9. WooHoo! Didn't want to go to that "superstore" anyways.

From what I'm hearing perhaps the bus just doesn't stop for pickup anymore?? Maybe traffic related?

Going back via Wilkes-Barre, there is the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport as an option for air travel....

Don't know if you will see this thread today. You may want to read Water Conditions on the trail in Pa. (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=38394) before getting under way. Other, older threads may also prove helpful.

Actual travel:

Philly Airport - SEPTA (R1) to Market East Station (Market between 10th and 12th). Bus station right across the street. *Reading Market Square is awesome !!

Capitol Trailways to Port Clinton. Bought tickets to Schuykill Heights because they no longer officially offer a stop at Port Clinton. This must be arranged with driver. In our case he waivered but said he would although they are not supposed to do that anymore. We took our packs onboard so we could reduce his stop time. Capitol website still shows Port Clinton as a "flag stop" but this is incorrect per their operating system.

DWG - Philly , MARTZ to Wilkes Barre, Wilkes Barre to Philly. Came into the same station we left from days earlier. Missed the early Greyhound which runs around 8am and another in the evening.

Quick little train ride to airport, trains running every thirty minutes or so.

Probably mean Schuylkill Haven as it's the next town north of Port Clinton on route 61 AND where I'm from.
Anyway, i lived there for 40+ years and never heard of Schuylkill Heights.
