I'm going to bite the bullet and purchase a waterproof/resistant sleeping bag to replace my Marmot Pinnacle. I've looked at a number of bags, but the one that stands out from the spec comparison seems to be the Moonstone 800 Lucid (http://www.moonstone.com/d_sb.asp?id=T12577%20Regular%20/%20T12477%20Long). This 1 pound, 12 ounce, 20-degree bag has a Pertex 1.1 DWR finish and only costs $260. Part of the reason it's so light is that it has a half-zipper and the regular size fits up a person up to 5' 9" tall (that gives me about a quarter inch!). I'm thinking about adding another 2 ounces of 800-fill down to add a touch more warmth (5 degrees?), in which case I'll still save 7 ounces over my Pinnacle.

I'd love to hear any opinions on this bag or anything out there that you feel is comparable. The comparable bags I found out there either didn't seem to offer a water-resistant finish (e.g., Western Mountaineering?!) or were quite a bit more expensive (esp. Nunatak).

If you plan on getting the Lucid I can highy recommend the guys at backcountry-equipment. I picked up my 30 degree Moonstone Stratus 3D bag from them, they have an excellent price on the Lucid ($229) as well as great customer service and one of the best web pages for gear on the net. I love all the extra pictures they take.

The 3D Stratus is the synthetic brother to the Lucid. You can find my review on the bag at backpackgeartest.org.

Packlite also did a ultralight bag roundup on his web page at :

I thought the Lucid was a full zip bag?

The Lucid is a great bag.. I've slept down to 30 degress in it so far and have been very toasty. I'm about 5'9 and a half and the regular fits me, albeit very snugly :)

The one I have has a full-zip. It also has a very narrow girth around the shoulders. You can pretty much forget about sleeping on your stomach and spreading your arms to any degree. Most of the time I unzip it a bit and wedge one arm out. I just have to put on a fleece top and glove to do this.

Backcountry Equipment is a good store and mine arrived within 2 days of when I ordered it!
