View Full Version : Nalgene Bottles
I found these Nalgene bottles in Wal-Mart today, they were in the seasonal isle of the grocery section. Nalgene bottles (actual Nalgene) sell for $10.00 to $14.00 in my area. Wal-Mart was selling these for $2.95 and each one has 10 packs of Crystal Light in them. Lemonade and Raspberry Lemonade mix (5 of each.) The larger bottle has larger lemonade packages to allow for it’s larger capacity. The larger bottle is 28-oz and the smaller one is marked 20-oz although both will take more liquid then that.
The smaller bottle is also a thinner plastic, and lighter then the larger one. It’s better suited for backpacking. It also has a hinged top so you don’t have to unscrew it to take a drink. These are a good buy, a $12.00 bottle for less then $3.00, and with 10-packs of drink mix.
I bought 3 of these, 2 of them to put away for later us.
Please don’t start a big debate how Nalgene is trying to kill people with BP-whatever the chemical is. No one wants to here it again. I’m just posting a good deal some of you may want to jump on, not debate about the plastic.
Good deal Bob S, thanks. These bottles can be used for lots of things besides drinking

Nalgene is a brand name, the bottles look like they are made by Brita. What's the country of origin?

They are made by Nalgene, it’s printed right on the bottom and the larger one is the exact same bottle I bought last year (also an actual Nalgene) for $12.00. It says made in USA on them.
The reason they look like they are made by Brita is that there is shrink-wrap on the bottles that have the advertising. Take it off (like you would when opening anything) and it’s a normal bottle.

Right before the big BPA blowup, Brita was marketing their filters w/ Nalgene water bottles (they were saying how disposable water bottles were bad for the environment). Then the BPA news broke and people started acting like the bottles were radioactive so WM was stuck w/ lots of lexan Nalgenes. Brita has since redone their package using Sigg bottles.

Will the loop on those bottles support being carried by a biner?

I have found that some of these Nalgenes with the different tops on them tend to leak when laying on their sides (like in your pack), unlike the "traditional" 32 oz. old fashioned Nalgenes.

Empty yes, filled with liquid no. I have one, it doesn't take too much to open the flip lid.
Take a look at the picture, they have the flip top and the traditional Nalgene bottles. I also feel that the flip-top one seems like a weak point. But I will give them a try in situations where it will not be critical if they pop open. But the other one is all Nalgene and as tough as they have always been.
You can still purchase the Nalgene Bottles made with Polycarbonate. Link (http://www.nalgene-outdoor.com/store/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=11)
However if you want one, you better order it now because Nalgene
is going to phase them out. Link (http://www.nalgene-outdoor.com/PDFs/08NAL_BPA_PR.pdf)

Personally,I don't think anyone who considers themselves an environmentally
concious person can use plastic bottles or styrofoam when there are better
alternatives available.

No debate necessary. Nalgenes and Camelbaks are now made out of Tritan, which is BPA free, which is made by Eastman, as in the Tennessee Eastman Hiking and Canoeing Club, as in where I work!!!
I think 50% of Camelbak's sales right now are from our company buying them because we make the plastic.
