Hey everyone. First post here.

So it turns out that my planned hiking partner for next year won't be able to accompany me for more than the first couple weeks of the trail due to work and graduate school. Disappointing, but I'm determined to get up to Katahdin. Love company when I'm hiking, so I figured I'd see who planned on starting around the same time or if anyone was interested in partnering up.

I'm a pretty laid back dude... aside from hiking I'm into mountain biking, CrossFitting and homebrewing. Just graduated from college this past May and I'm looking for some adventure before I settle down and find work.

So... anyone looking for a hiking partner for next year, or should I start looking for advice on how to keep myself sane while soloing?

There will be plenty of people out there during March, you won't go crazy. I have never hiked in march, but in april the campsites, shelters and hostels are busting at the seams. You will find some folks out there and in a week you will know them better than most of your townie friends.

You can check out the '09 thru-hike registry to see who else plans to start out around that time. I don't think someone your age will have much trouble finding other's of similar age who are starting out and that you will get to know enroute.

Welcome to White Blaze.
You'll get pals in no time - the first day out. Lots starting around that time. So don't be concerned. :)

So a lot could happen between now and then, but I'm hoping to thru-hike next year, and leave from Springer around that time--if I don't go in 09 it'll be 20 years till I can go (give or take). My friend/hiking partner isn't sure if she can go or not...but either way I'll keep in touch. Good luck!

I'll be heading out early March, although I plan on "soloing" I figure that I won't be solo for much of the hike. As mentioned before, lots of people leave in March. I'll see you on the trail!
