My father an I are hitting the Quehanna trail shortly. We plan to do the Eastern Loop (QT and the Eastern Connector trail) roughluy 40 miles. Any insight thoughts would be welcome. Any websites that would be good to get information from. Hear the H2O is not a problem. Just looking for some general information about best direction(?), great tent sites(?)...places to grab a bite to eat afterwards....I want to thank all who help ahead of time. This is just a wonderful site that has always been filled with wonderful help (well most of the time...lol) Thanks!

To me, Quehanna Trail is a cut above most of the other footpaths in the high plateau of the "Pennsylvania Wilds." The scenery, wildlife, and history just seem a bit nicer than, say, the nearby Chuck Keiper Trail.

The maintaining Quehanna Area Trails Club's website is well hidden at the following URL: http://www.westbranch.org/community%20pages/quehanna%20trail/quehanna%20trail.htm On that website you will find contact information for George Lockey, its leader, who is a very helpful individual with QT information. If you can't find him, try Ralph Seeley (also listed there) who is the eminence gris of the QT.

I really like the Greate Buffaloe Swamp version of the trail guide - it has quite a lot of historical information as well and frankly I found it a fascinating read. It does not neglict details about water availability and campsites. There are sometimes relocations so it's best to have the newest guide and maps.

Seems everyone else who's done the trail has seen elk, but I haven't. :(

Water actually CAN be a problem in an especially dry summer, I had to abort a multi-day trip there due to lack of water in September a few years back. Water is much easier than the PA A.T. though.

Bite to eat afterwards:
-Others recommend the Medix Run Hotel on the NW side. I've not been there myself.
-Luigi's Italian restaurant on Rt 219 in downtown DuBois off the SW side is excellent - I've gone in after a hard day of trail work and they put us in the back but food still very good.
-Denny's Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield http://www.dennysbeerbarrelpub.com/ off the SE side is well known and pretty good. NOT to be confused with the chain Denny's, that's NOT what this is! I've been going there for years - it was better before the Food Network discovered it, but still good enough to impress my traveling companions.

This is the best time of year to be on the Quehanna Trail - it's an absolutely beautiful, hidden little gem in autumn. Enjoy!
