Great list !

I really like that Thompson peak pack. What is the frame? A rolled up sleeping pad maybe ?

I am thinking of one with a hip belt... and sternum strap? If available.

I have the ray way pack, very similar. Its light enough you don't need the hip belt IMO.

No clothing layers, hats, gloves, etc? :eek:I think they left out all the clothing except the rain gear, which often overlaps with shelter.

As for the clothing that would go along with this gear, that is a good question. I think its wrong to seperate clothing worn from clothing packed, because one depends too much on the other. I need to 'normally pack' very little because of the clothing I 'normally wear', like a wool sweater, which is not too hot for normal days when you wear nothing else with it, and needs very little added to it for the nasty days. Others might take a different approach and end up with the same total weight but 'normally wear' less but 'normally pack' more.

I couldn't answer sooner since I just got back from shuttling a forum member from the south end of the LT to the Canadian border to begin his End-to-End.

For almost all of the 3 seasons that gear list is all that I carry. I found that carrying an extra set of clothes was a waste of time, space, and weight. I wear clothing, as light as possible, to match the conditions and don't carry extras. This has worked fine for the past few years with no problems. The only extra I carry on an occasional basis is a 3 oz windshirt for cool, windy, or rainy conditions when it's cool. As those on here who have hiked with me know, that's all, folks.

Wow. So you don't overheat on the trail in the same clothing that will keep you warm enough for rest stops and camp chores?

Amazing.

Photo (http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/qq164/Quoddy1/Pack.jpg?t=1222870635) is packing up on a section of the AT this spring in Massachusetts. Temperature was at, or just below, freezing and I was wearing my windshirt over my thin Icebreaker shirt. I'm wearing my ever present Buff. Shortly after getting on the trail I took off the windshirt. Any warmer than this I would have planned on my normal shorts and a short sleeved top. Total packweight in this photo, with water, and only a day's food left was 9 pounds. I am blessed (or cursed) with a metabolism that let's me sleep in a 50F bag in temperatures of 35F in just shorts and a short sleeved T shirt, but knowing that the temperatures would be marginal I was using a 35F bag. Having done my first section of the AT in the early spring of 1954, and having hiked approximately 11,000 miles in the US and Europe, I think I have a fairly good idea what works for me by now.

I'd say a warm metabolism like that is definitely a blessing when trying to keep your pack weight low. Warm layers add quite a bit of weight in my pack for all but the warmest summer trips. :(

Congrats on achieving true minimalism. Nice photo.

You are lucky. I know a guy from Oregon who is impervious to cold, wet, and hard ground. He can sleep anywhere, anyhow. He is lucky. too.

Claims it is due to time in, but I figure it is part genetic/environmental, as he doesn't like the desert.

That's a pretty rad list. If you don't mind me asking, how much would all that gear cost?

Hey Neo, I picked up a 8x10 Camo tarp from General and dumped the Noah 12 to cut a few ounces. I was looking though the pics you posted on shortcuts to HH. The island pics show a bright yellow kayak. I discovered a really cheap camo mesh at Dick Sporting Goods, I would throw over it and that would disappear too!

The pic's look great.
