It says no pot stands needed. I assume the pot sits on the stove and is heated by the side burning. But how steady of a pot stand is this? It looks somewhat small for a steady pot stand. I would not like to see my much desired meal fall over and spill on the ground.

The reason why that guy did a review is because backpackinglight.com did not give high marks to his stove and the WBS. It's his type of revenge against backpackinglight.com Those of you that have followed his progression will know what I speak of. It's all in the archives.

I've tested the WBS and found it to be too long to ignite(1.75 min.) and burned dirty with denatured alcohol. I did not purchase a WBS stove. I assumed possesion of one under unusual circumstances.
The makers response was to use some alcohol to prime the stove to get it to "bloom" faster. I could give a link to the testing thread if anyone is interested in my tests..

A good point is you can use it as a step stool:-?

Well, I like my White Box Stove, it is slightly less efficient than other stoves, mainly 'cause it takes so long to bloom. This can be made up for in part by holding your pot over it until it blooms so those BTU's aren't wasted. Like you said, you won't crush it by accident. My MSR 0.85 TI pot fits on top of it just fine.

I don't have that exact stove, but have used similar.
As many people have found, it will bloom much faster with a few drops of fuel on the outside. I usually spill a few drops before lighting and can get my side-jet stoves to bloom within 30 or 40 seconds.

I do tend to prefer the non-side-jet style as I always need a wind screen anyway so why not use a combo windscreen stand. That way I can light the stove and walk away. No need to wait for the bloom.

I haven't found the side-jet stoves to be less efficient than others if used properly. They do tend to require a wider pot as the flames sometimes extend past the bottom of mugs.

The side-jet stoves do a good job of impressing people who've never seen one in action:-)

I love my Whitebox stove. I have the old style, and the new one. I have never had to wait more than maybe 30 - 45 seconds for it to ignite. If you don't have a this much time for the stove to ingite, maybe you are in too much of a hurry. I try to slow down my life's pace when I am out there.

I carried a home made white box on my thru this year and love it. If you use a priming pan it will bloom in just a few seconds. I found it to be pretty efficient with a wind screen and my k-mart grease pot. I think 8 oz of fuel lasted me 14 days with cooking dinner every night. I don't put much faith in the whole boil 2 cups of water with one oz of fuel test because I don't do that when I'm in the woods. So real world, 8 oz gave me 14 dinners and I don't just boil water. That would include mac and cheese, liptons, etc. The thing will never break, but stability is a minor issue. I used my pot holder to steady my pot when I would stir.

My favorite thing about it is it's durability. I've seen few threads on here about people having to fashion a alcohol stove in the woods because theirs broke, and I saw it on the trail once. This won't break unless you try to break it.

You need to use HEET not denatured alcohol..
Why would you do that? I've been putting alcohol through my Whitebox for 40 nights or so and it works fine. Alcohol has more energy that HEET.

Denatured alcohol soots up my cooking pot real bad. Other than that DA is fine.

Are you sure it's denatured alcohol?
It may be a bad batch. If it has much water in it, it can soot up. Denatured alcohol can absorb some water if it is left in the open too long.

Heet(the Meth version, don't use the Iso version) can be too expensive compared to bulk denatured alcohol.
