It says at the top that this is a forum for female hikers only to discuss female issues. (Says dessertrat, breaking the rule!).

Also says "Currently this is an open forum. So with that in mind, if you are a male reading this, please refrain from making rude, crude or otherwise distracting posts here."

I can see deleting anything that violates the rules as stated in the sticky, and possibly getting moderated status if a male insisted on making "rude, crude or otherwise distracting posts" but the rule about being an open forum doesn't look like it's changed to me.

So, what have I missed?

You should know by now, we cant pay attention and don't listen when we do! :D

When the Women's Forum was created, there was a lot of discussion about what would and would not be allowed. We collectively decided that it was just about impossible to ban men entirely, and that there was some value in allowing men to contribute both information and to ask questions.

HOWEVER, the Women's Forum has much stricter rules about what is acceptable, especially in the tone of posts. To make a huge generalization, most women do not want the kind of sniping, pissing contest stuff that goes on in the general and other forums.

Those are the rules. Men or women who persist in violating those rules will be banned from the Women's Forum, while retaining access to other Whiteblaze forums. To make it crystal clear: Smartass comments will pretty quickly get you kicked out of the forum.

Speaking just for myself, I think a "Women's Forum" should be just that, i.e. a forum for women. Out of courtesy, guys should really try and refrain from posting here. If there's something you simply HAVE to say to someone who has commented here, then send them a private message. Just because guys are technically allowed to post on the Women's Forum doesn't necessarily mean that they should.

There is zero way to insure that only women can post....

I think for 99 percent, it is as Jack has stated. I believe there has also been a few post in here, where men's post were asked and even encouraged (Open dialog...a good thing)

The special forum is for giving voice to people who might otherwise not feel comfortable making themselves heard, and for discussion of issues they want to talk about amongst themselves. (That obviously does not describe me very well.:rolleyes:) So, yeah, if there are a group of gay hikers who feel the need to ask for a special forum, I imagine that would be taken seriously by the Whiteblaze administrators. Or veterans, or dog-loving hikers (oh, yeah, they already have their own forum), or hammockers (them, too), or SOBOs (and them)...

Just as dog-hikers can now expect to carry on their conversations without a lot of input from dog-haters, we women expect to carry on our conversations without a lot of advice/input/kibutzing from the Other Team.

The title bar plainly says "Female Hiking forums This is for female hikers only to discuss female issues" and until that rule is changed, I think the Moderator should enforce that rule. Otherwise, what operates is the arbitrary rule of "man" not the rule of law in here. It's one or the other, the rule or the practice, but one has to go.

Dont get me wrong you guys, I like hearing from you, when it is inline with the forum topic and doesnt cut someone down....

I have seen guys on here from time to time. There was also a guy on here last year who then made me a great town pack to carry around when I was on my hike (I had asked about one on a thread). He did a super job on it. So it's fine with me if they show up! And some like to seek advice for their wives, hiking girlfriends, etc.

And that, Blissful, is fine.

Agreed on the entire forum!!! Hence, the new level of moderation going on.....

I agree with Marta, I don't mind hearing from the guys when it is helpful and on topic. Also some of them need hiking advice relating to their female loved ones. Besides, Jumper...sometimes they just can't help themselves... :D
