View Full Version : Memorial Cross on the trail in NY
I came across a memorial cross on the trail near South Highland Road in NY which says "Hikers please say a prayer for my best friend Rick who left earth here on 10/06/07".
I posted a picture at: http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=28432&catid=member&imageuser=12138
Does anyone have any information on this?

I came across the same cross last year in the fall but have no idea about the story behind it.

Too bad. Maybe a fellow hiker.

The thing that really has my interest is the wording of "here". did his friend actually die right there at that spot?
Yes, that's the way I took it anyway. I was wondering if it was a hiker.

I came across this same memorial around 1000 this past Saturday (05 Sept 09).
Was hoping to get info here but it seems to remain a mystery.
As already mentioned the horizontal bar of the crucifix has: "Hikers please say a prayer for my best friend Rick who left Earth here 10/06/2007"
The vertical bar has large stick-on letters: 10.06.07
It's at the South Highland Road crossing, 1,403.4 from Springer according to the '09 ALDHA Companion.

Since Don H's photo a set of light purple plastic beads with a small crucifix hanging from the bottom has been draped around the center of the cross.
and it still remains a mystery...
