View Full Version : MSR Pocket Rocket Pot
For those of you that use the Pocket Rocket for a stove, what pot do you use?
MTS
Before I switched to an alky stove, I used the Pocket Rocket with an MSR Titan Kettle.

The ever so wonderful Grease Pot.
I don't know about others, but my local Walmart no longer carries the grease pot. Pitty, as I discovered the awesomeness of the pot before I had a chance to buy one.

Try K mart. That's where I got one last time, but it's been a while.
For one person, a Titan kettle. For two people, a 2-liter titanium pot.

I used the Titan also. It's good for solo hiking. Once in awhile it was too small for some of the Lipton noodles and mac and cheese mixes. You just had to be careful not to overflow when stirring. I had no problems with clean ups, even if there was some sticking.

I think it is an optimus or primus, anodized aluminum. it is very strong due to the anodizing and also nonstick, very light, never dents, the cannister, small pack towel and small piece of scrubbie fits inside, lid on top and the pocket rocket ontop of the lid all inside the mesh pot bag. Perfect size for 1 lipton dinner. It is VERY durable, has about 2,500 miles on it and no dents, no cracks, no breaks....$25...the only place I've found it is at Mt. Rogers Outfitters in Damascus....I will buy another one at Trail Days!

Did not carry a wind screen just used rocks ect. got 14 meals out of 1 can. small then also did a variation test with a alchoal stove just as good . burn time was hot via, alchoal other than that it depends on alltitude an humididity an all the other ELEMENTS you might be in? GOOD LUCK TRY BOTH AN ENJOY YOUR ROMEINS AS IS ....... PS TUNA ROMAINE AN PITAS, SLASH PEPPER-SALT-an anything else you can think of...

I have an old handle from an aluminum pot from many years ago.
I simply go to a thrift store, look for a 1.5 litre aluminum pot that i like the size of, and take off their handle and put on mine.
I've worn out 2 of these pots already but the handle is still ok. I just use pop rivets to attach it.
No need to spend the big bucks for the titanium high dollar ones. Aluminum pots are easy to find in thrift stores for $1 usually.
A folding handle is a nice thing to have though. And a lid that is lightweight is important. (A lid saves you lots of fuel, especially if you just cook your pasta to a boil and then let it sit for 10 minutes like I do)
I just went on my first hike and bought a pocket rocket.
I went with a buddy and we used the Snow Peak Trek 900.
It has a large capacity allowing for plenty of water and the lid/pad made an exceptional bowl.

Sorry, I meant lid/pan...not pad!
Thanks.
The titan kettle seems nice since it's soo light and everything fits in it, but $50 for a pot seems crazy to me.
looks like there is a lot of options out there though.

My local K-mart still carries their version. If you want one , let me know and I can pick one up for you.

Very good of you, thanks so much. It's always nice meeting such generous folks.
I never shop at Kmart so it didn't even come to mind. I'll check them out today and get back with you.

I use the Vargo ti-lite mug. Works great for just one. Oh yeah, and has a strainer lid !

IMUSA aluminum mug from Wal-Mart. They do not carry them at my local wal-mart but someone in Cali got one for me. They are cheap and light. You tend to find them in Mexican grocery stores as well from what I have gathered.

I use a 30 ounce Snow Peak. It is some what small but a fuel canister fits inside and the MSR Pocket Rocket lays on top with the lid closed. Self contained cooking system that doesn't take up too much space.

I carry the Snowpeak Titanium 3 pc set (http://www.backcountry.com/store/SNO0016/Snow-Peak-Titanium-Cookware-3pcs.html) for use with my PR. My problem is that I am used to cooking with my W-Lite or pesi can and do tasks while awaitingthe water to boil. The PR is so quick, that I find I waste a least 2-3 mins of boiling time for each meal.
