I am trying to find some friends to go hiking with in the East TN area...I am from FL, but came here for a few years to take care of my mother, that is when I truly fell in love with these mountains...anyhow, I went back home, but fate has brought me back here until the summer of 09. I plan on a thru hike in 10, but for now I would like to meet up with some people in the vicinty who can show me some new areas. I live in the Cherokee National forest, Just near the Benton Mackaye trail in the Unicoi Mountains and have done some hiking here with my dog, Bailey, but I would like to venture out a bit further and for a bit longer than a couple of nights, just do not want to go it alone. Any takers? I have looked into the groups in the Knoxville/ Chattanooga area, but I was wondering if someone may be closer? I am going to post this in a few different areas and see what happens...Thanks!

I put together a hike for this coming weekend, from Damascus NOBO for 4 days. See the "Leonid Meteror Shower" hike thread, if interested. With plenty of road crossings, you could hike any number of days with us.

Well, dang, Turtle2, there's been a thread on here for a couple of weeks! Sorry I didn't think to email you, though.

Hard to believe, I've been working and have had only limited evening time on the computer. Missed some nice threads on WB. Maybe next time.

I'm usually up for a hike or a weekender between the NOC and Mount Rogers.
Rain Man, I hope you get a few breaks in the clouds this weekend to see the showers. You may not see a meteor shower, but you might just see a snow shower or two.

I'm a "rain or shine" hiker. Once planned, I'm going to do the hike. :)

Right now it's a chance of snow flurries the first two days, with plenty of sunshine the second two days. The boys have never seen snow before.

I'm only concerned about the cold at night for the boys I'm taking, and the water situation.

If you are south of the Smokies there are couple groups that hike and maintain trail through there. Smoky Mountain Hiking Club, BMT crew, Cumberland Trail Conference, and few others that escape my mind.

North of the Smokies are the Carolina Club & TEHCC (which I am part of) who are AT maintaining clubs, and have well formed hiking groups.

Personally I'm in Johnson City, the gate way to the mountains. Perfect place to be in within an hour drive to the Roans, Unakas, Balds, Holston, Iron, Mt Rogers, and the BRP.
