Just got back from speaking with the Ranger up at Woody Gap and he says the trail will open today.
We got about .25 - .5 inches of rain last night and that pretty much put an end to what was left of the fire. We are in heavy fog and they are waiting for the fog to lift to go in and do a final check of the area.
He did caution that hikers will encounter fire fighters on the trail today and to expect the area around Woody Gap to be congested with Forest Service vehicles and to avoid the parking area until they move out.
